And......to get back on topic......let me say I am really stoked about the 4 new releases. It's just a real nice mix of titles, that I will really appreciate. Woo hoo! Wonder when they'll start shipping out? This time, I did NOT get the usual "shipped" notification. Or....did I?

Oddly enough, I received a ship notice only a few hours after placing my order on Friday. I only ordered the single Guess Who disk. I wonder if ordering a single disc makes a difference?

Oooh, I'm looking forward to comparing DV's treatment of The Best Of The Guess Who to AF's. 🤩 Wonder if I'll be able to pick any difference? 🤔 If not, no matter: it'll still be worth the coin to have Rockin' in 4.0. I might also pick up Black Byrd, and a couple of earlier stragglers that I've yet to buy from DV (Derringer, Chase, Deodato).

It's not the same album - AF did the Best Of Vol. I, which covered hits from Wheatfield Soul through Share The Land. D-V is doing the Best Of Vol. II, which covers hits from later albums such as So Long Bannatyne and Artificial Paradise.

True. And you will also be able to compare the sound quality of "Rockin" to "Best of Guess Who, Volume 2" on Surround Sound SACD.
More fun ahead. :)

I wonder if the separation on Rockin' is a little better than the Q8? Rockin' comes from that era of Guess Who Q8's where they were almost in glorious quadramono. Or, am I mis-remembering and Rockin' is the one with the semi-wonky mix because they put a different guitar in FL and BL and then had Burton's keyboard (either in mono or tight stereo) in the FR and BR channels. (It kind of almost makes it seem like the mix should've been turned 90 degrees to the left.)

But those two are no-brainers for me. Do you realize that's now FIVE Quad Guess Who titles that have been released on a modern format? Would you have ever guessed a few years ago that would ever happen? Didn't they once announce they were going to give ALL the Guess Who albums the 5.1 treatment and then NOTHING ever came of that?

I'll probably get Herbie, Byrd and the Tomita just to .... well, support the cause.

Who announced that? Dutton Vocalion?
Presumably, whichever major label owned their catalog around the turn of the millennium when SACD and DVD-Audio were driving a surround remix frenzy that soon died out, before all the announced titles were released or even completed.

Having covered the days of DVDA and SACD for High Fidelity Review, I didn't see any of The Guess Who albums on the proposed release lists for either format.

it does sound like double stereo in parts and if you pick apart the channels you won't find CBS levels of separation but it is one of the better (possibly the best of) the Guess Who Quads beyond the Best Of's, Road Food & #10.

it is amazing just how much Quad's been reissued the last few years between AF, DV, Quadio etc.!

oh yes! Herbie H, Donald B and Isao T are must have's but don't forget the Mothers Fathers Sisters And Brothers doing Philadelphia Freedom in discrete surround for the first time ever!

Zip to the Zip-Zip-Zip-Zip-Zip-Zip-Zip!!
