Yes, I'm finding I am listening to stuff that, a few years ago, I wouldn't have given it 5 seconds. Great discoveries, great music. Don't get me wrong, not all of it would I go out and buy, but in those cases streaming is the perfect option.

And yes, I agree that the labels ought to get their OOP 5.1 stuff (hell, even the current 5.1) on and have Apple Music brand it with the "Dolby Audio" flag.

One of the more noteworthy classical titles this week: an interesting program of Bach and Arvo Pärt by Arabella Steinbacher. Pärt's "Fratres," which opens the disc, is lulling and mesmerizing, in an almost Philip-Glass kind of way; I think ambient fans would like it. The Bach violin concerto has hummable melodies that will be familiar to even the most casual classical listener. The Atmos mix is appropriately "spacious."

Now this is an oddity: an obscure folk album from 1971 by the late Tia Blake, originally released on a tiny French label. As the album's Bandcamp page rightly suggests: a contemporary listener will hear shades of Nick Drake, Nico, and John Renbourn. The mix isn't really "Atmos" in any meaningful sense of the word; I think it's just double-stereo quad with a summed center channel. (They didn't even attempt any stem separation.) Definitely worth a play or two, though, or maybe more.

I'm really enjoying the mix on this one.

That's a sweet album by a talented young singer-songwriter. Thanks for the alert. (And welcome to QQ!)
Adding my voice to the chorus on this one: what a fantastic mix! Layered vocals are positioned all over the room to great effect. The near-instrumental "Joanie" is a standout.

Could be a temporary glitch on Apple Music, but George Harrison - All Things Must Pass (50th Anniversary) [Super Deluxe] has been replaced with a non-Atmos version (I had it in my library and the entire album says "No Longer Available", but there is a version with that name in Apple Music that is all stereo.

The All Things Must Pass (50th Anniversary) album without the extras is still there and in Atmos.

They added that to the Atmos "new release" section in Tidal a couple weeks ago, and I didn't understand why.

The only tracks I could play from my playlist (from when it came out were live Tracks from the original 3rd LP and Track 4: Isn’t It a Pity Version 1). I had to delete the playlist, the actual album from my library and again in ITunes on my Mac. Otherwise I couldn’t add it again properly. Only the previously listed tracks. Re-added it now and it’s playing properly. It may be my imagination but on some of the tracks the mix sounds different. I noticed it on ‘Wah Wah’! Maybe it’s just having my ears cleaned out last week. I might start looking for the box set or at least the Blu-Ray.

Thanks for pointing this out.

All the Harrison studio albums look like they got upgraded to Atmos today on Apple Music. At least in U.S.

Even Wonderwall.
Just looked it up, his birthday’s around the corner, Feb 25th. I wonder if they are planning to make him featured artist then, and these just went up early

A thought for the fuddy duddies, or anyone who is passing on new music. I have found that the deeper I dig, there is plenty of new music that is incredible to my ears. I am thinking of newer artists, not just silver haired bands that are releasing new material. It all started when I began listening to Radio Paradise, which has a pretty eclectic mix of old, new, and everything in between. My personal favorite label is MoonJune Records at this point, as I am a big fusion and progressive rock fan.

Now, as a side note, I just want to mention that I went to see Christopher Cross last fall with my friend who loves that song "Sailing" - I didn't expect much, however it was one of the best pop music shows I have ever seen. It gave me a new appreciation for those pasty pop songs, specifically when I realized that he has a lot in common with the pop edge of the Alan Parsons sound.

Really, what I am trying to say, is giving new music a chance to settle in can be worth ones time!
I am listening to more new music than I have in years thanks to streaming Atmos and there is much of it I really like. Tidal has a “just released” section that stays updated with new tracks regularly. Some are great. Some I pass past after a few seconds. Some I like are one track from entirely mixed albums. Some are standalone Atmos tracks. Some have great mixes. Some of the mixes suck. Whatever. It’s fun to browse through it and be turned on to new music I like.

I just looked for them on Tidal and none showed up, plus they removed All Things Must Pass (50th Anniversary) album.
