I had the same brief moment of excitement followed by the disappointment in finding that it's only first track in Atmos.Jóhann Jóhannsson – Orphée
*edit- unfortunately looks like only the first song is Atmos, hate it when they do that!
At least we got a full (posthumous) recording of his Drone Mass in Atmos:I had the same brief moment of excitement followed by the disappointment in finding that it's only first track in Atmos.
I'd love for this to get a full release in Atmos.
Anyone hope/think that ATMOS may be a fad, but 5.1/7.1 will get a substantial re boot because of the increased exposure from the marketing of “ spatial audio”Yeah, but Clearmountain or otherwise, I want someone who both knows his/her way around an Atmos console, and is passionate about the dimensional possibilities. Too many Atmos mixes, so far, are not something I'd be proud of. And then some.......masterpieces in their portfolio.
Not going to go there…..don’t want to ruin the illusion that streaming surround music is great and then “ have to” get up off my ass and put a SACD on!You think it sounds ok but then you put on the 5.1 SACD of Avalon and it’s embarrassing how much better the SACD is.
No way, Atmos’ binaural render capability affords it much wider audience than prior multichannel formats.Anyone hope/think that ATMOS may be a fad, but 5.1/7.1 will get a substantial re boot because of the increased exposure from the marketing of “ spatial audio”
From the point of view of us fans, though, the labels are missing an opportunity to put their old, OOP 5.1 mixes back in circulation by rebranding them as "Spatial Audio." I doubt most streaming customers could tell the difference between many Atmos mixes and a 5.1 or 7.1 mix, anyway--especially those that put little or nothing up top to begin with.No way, Atmos’ binaural render capability affords it much wider audience than prior multichannel formats.
ok, I’ll be happy if the current crop of ATMOS mixers put together on average better mixes. It’s a new thing, perhaps it’s going to take time.No way, Atmos’ binaural render capability affords it much wider audience than prior multichannel formats.
That's a sweet album by a talented young singer-songwriter. Thanks for the alert. (And welcome to QQ!)I'm really enjoying the mix on this one.
My disc has been underway for a week, but the postal troubles in the UK are slowing it down. Will listen to it on Apple Music tonight.Orbital's new album is now fully available in Norway. Still marked as preview in AM US. Guessing this will change soon.

Dolby, Apple and Sony are pouring big money into Immersive Surround - Atmos, Spatial Audio, 360 - and not really for us:Anyone hope/think that ATMOS may be a fad, but 5.1/7.1 will get a substantial re boot because of the increased exposure from the marketing of “ spatial audio”
I’ve heard some really good ATMOS, but I think overall my collection of 5.1 stuff is meatier and more musical?
Nope. Getting the same as you. Songs greyed with an option to buy for NOK 109 (approx. £10/$10), but the link doesn't lead anywhere. Makes me wonder. Are we (in AM Norway) seeing something we shouldn't have? Are Apple planning to sell the Atmos titles at a later stage? Hope not!My disc has been underway for a week, but the postal troubles in the UK are slowing it down. Will listen to it on Apple Music tonight.
Bay the way, have you been able to listen to the Roxy Music greatest hits? I can't seem to add it.
hear hear!! well saidA thought for the fuddy duddies, or anyone who is passing on new music. I have found that the deeper I dig, there is plenty of new music that is incredible to my ears. I am thinking of newer artists, not just silver haired bands that are releasing new material. It all started when I began listening to Radio Paradise, which has a pretty eclectic mix of old, new, and everything in between. My personal favorite label is MoonJune Records at this point, as I am a big fusion and progressive rock fan.
Now, as a side note, I just want to mention that I went to see Christopher Cross last fall with my friend who loves that song "Sailing" - I didn't expect much, however it was one of the best pop music shows I have ever seen. It gave me a new appreciation for those pasty pop songs, specifically when I realized that he has a lot in common with the pop edge of the Alan Parsons sound.
Really, what I am trying to say, is giving new music a chance to settle in can be worth ones time!
