Okay, here's what will be keeping me busy for the next couple of weeks. Every year around this time I start collating "Best Of" lists from a handful of places (NPR, the New York Times, the Guardian, PopMatters, Pitchfork). I'm still waiting on a couple of people--Ann Powers, David Hajdu, Nate Chinen--to cough up their choices, but this is what I have so far. I'm estimating that somewhere around half the albums have Atmos mixes. I was previously acquainted with maybe two dozen of these titles. Because, you know, I'm old.

Yeah, sounds like a standard surround live mix - The music is mostly on the front channels and the audience is in the back for ambiance.
I watched Cuts Like a Knife tonight, it was just the band on stage in black and white, no audience. Good use of the all the 7.1 channels, but next to nothing in the heights, but a good experience after all. :)

I heard a couple of songs from the "Waking up the Neighbors" live album and there was definitely an audience 😊
Why the hell would you do a show at the Royal Albert Hall with no audience?

Thanks for doing this list, most informative
Did you also check the grammy nominated ones?

The two first records are played on stage with the band standing in a circle, no audience just the camera operators, black and white picture. "Waking up the Neighbors" are filmed in a normal concert setting in colour and with an audience.:)
