This is you holding back?

You're the kind of hero we need, but not the kind we deserve. I often browse Reddit when I'm bored and I want to see good information downloaded into oblivion, and I frequently see complaints about using the service apps' music discovery features.

This does not apply to me because:
  • This thread. I discover a lot of new songs, new artists, and even new genres here
  • I have millennial kids who frequently share music with me
  • I have gen z/alpha grandkids, who are starting to share music with me
  • I have a stubborn refusal to give up a huge chunk of my listening time due to overly indulging myself with the music from my teen years
Seriously, thank you, @fredblue and everyone else in this thread. You all are saving me from the algorithm. Wish I could save you from the wordiness of that last bullet point. Sheesh.
you're so welcome!! 🤗 it's my absolute pleasure to share any and all tracks i'm enjoying right here with you at my favourite online hangout!!! it's certainly never dull..! 💖

A very nice playlist of good Atmos mixes on Apple music, created by a member of Audyssey Evo one Nexus forum

In that forum you can learn how to calibrate your AVR of Denon or Marrantz on a very nice way. And it can be also useful for other brands AVR
I was very excited to see Situation by Yaz on this list, but it's only in stereo, at least in the US. :(

This Billy Joel Storm Front mix is a disaster because the vocals are consistently mixed either too loud in the surrounds (the lead, not a harmony) or have weird echoing that isn't present in the stereo mix like Alexa. No centre channel activity whatsoever. I really dislike that trend.
To each his own...but I love the mix. Even if not to the level of Atmos you wish - it is far superior to any previous stereo mix correct??

if you listen to the new cure album with headphones avoid the dolby atmos version which is terrible downmixed in stereo, and go for the hi-res lossless version instead which is mixed way much better.

i just realized that i had a setting turned on in the apple music app options that was always replacing my stereo downloads on my smartphone with the dolby atmos versions available. when the mixing is done well someone could not notice it, but in this case they were so different i had to figure out what was going on.

Introducing the Arden Records label that contains a veritable feast of unheralded predominantly Atmos producing lo-fi ‘Chill” artists.

https://music.apple.com/au/label/arden-records/1686650306.

I suggest starting here:
‘A Timeless Motif - Arden and London Symphony Orchestra’

Particularly tracks-

.

And on artist Maono’s EP’s/singles:

.

There’s tons of uber discrete Atmos content to explore here….

Using a stereo mix as the baseline is fraught with problems. There are no rules with a remix, especially to Atmos. People who want the same thing should probably stick to the original mix.

Feel free to list a few examples of other mixes that have done this, that would show you understood what I posted.

Please also reach out to Steven Wilson to let him know all his remix projects are "fraught with problems", given he uses the stereo mix as a baseline.

"People who want the same thing" - which part of my post says I want the same thing? Straw man fallacies are boring.
