Listening to in Dolby Atmos Streaming, via Tidal/Apple/Amazon

Wow, great to have this album in Atmos! Thanks @LennonCobain for posting. In 1988 (the year this album was released) I was fortunate enough to see her live in a small venue downtown Oslo. Only her and the guitar in front of a small crowd. She had our total attention. She was like a firework! A strong and remarkable voice and so much energy and dynamics. And these great songs of course, spanning from exploding 'Bring Me Some Water' to the more quiet and emotional ones like 'Precious Pain'.

I remember the original album as quite good sounding compared to many other rock albums at the time. Niko Bolas did the original mix and was in on the production side. Some of the songs got a very dry vocal which wasn't very usual at that time. The production and arrangements suits Melissa's songs well. I find Dustin Richardson's atmos mix to be a pretty good one. Not all of the songs screams for an atmos treatment, but his mixing choices works well. He has made some improvements and been able to keep the important energy in drums and bass.

Although Melissa Etheridge had greater success with some of her other albums I will always have a stronger relationship with her self-titled debut. A recommended listen if you are not familiar with it.

This and Yes I Am are my favorites of hers. They both sound really good, but I was hoping for a bit more from the mix. Just a little more immersive. Still, they sounded great when I turned them up to 11.

As far as live (sorry if I'm a bit off topic), she never sounded better than when she had Phillip Sayce on guitar and Kenny Aronoff on drums in 2004. Man that band rocked better than 90% of the rock bands out there.

So I have Tidal for a month. I cancelled it though. I have Apple Music all the time. I'm now paying for a year to get a better rate. I hope this is the right place to post this but listening to the first track of the Melissa Etheridge "Similar Features" on TIDAL in ATMOS, the volume was really low. I had to crank my receiver way up to get it listenable. The song didn't sound great even at that. I flipped over to the same track on Apple Music and the volume nearly blew me out of my chair. Once decreased the sound seemed to be more anchored and sounded way better overall. No comparison really. This is on an Apple TV 4K, current generation player. I'm not sure how anyone can say that Tidal is as good or even close to Apple Music.

The levels on Tidal have been an issue for a long time when played through an Apple TV. The app itself as a stand-alone app through headphones doesn't exhibit this level issue.
