Listening to CD of Gary Wright - The Dream Weaver! It's embarrassing that I have to listen to this in PL II...thought it sounds excellent...why embarrassing? Because this was made for a QUAD or 5.1 version......WTF??? Bring it on.

Listening to in Multi Channel Stereo

I have historically not been pleased with this disc...sorely missing on bass and sounds ever so compressed. But...tonight...the wife is gone. So, I adjusted the sub up several notches....decided to toggle between all the different fake quad formats and found Multi Stereo to be the best on my system...gave it some gas...

So - very pleased listening to it in this format and with some serious volume. I can in fact say, I was "loving" it.

I have historically not been pleased with this disc...sorely missing on bass and sounds ever so compressed. But...tonight...the wife is gone. So, I adjusted the sub up several notches....decided to toggle between all the different fake quad formats and found Multi Stereo to be the best on my system...gave it some gas...

So - very pleased listening to it in this format and with some serious volume. I can in fact say, I was "loving" it.

That's also the setting I always use for stereo sources (called all channel stereo on the Onkyo), adds a bit more bass and and treble, prologicII sounds more centered on my rig.

OK, so a very firm reality check....I just put on my Queen...A Night At The Opera DVD-Audio. Eh......er...um....Not even a close race. I mean, not even remotely close. The DVD-Audio in every way simply blows that damn SHM SACD clean off the planet earth.

Sigh....oh well.

True, a good thing that you didn't listen to A Night At The Opera first , you probably wouldn't have finished listening to the NEWS OF THE WORLD disc.

Have you tried PLII Music and eliminated the Centre channel altogether?
(If you just set the centre image to its Max, the centre channel disappears and your front L&R handle the phantom centre etc.)
Works for me!
So many CDs pan out brilliantly this way! Try things with lots of out of phase info like Stevie Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life", you'll be amazed at the pseudo surround effect!

I'd heard these SACDs weren't much cop Fwiw, one time I tried out my old EMI CDP (UK Swindon 80's pressing, sounds wonderful) of News Of The World in PLII Music and it panned out pretty nicely!

I wanted a little fun listening and poled out more of my stereo MOOG LP`S and had a couple of days of listen to them, through my Surround Master synth mood and they sounded out of this earth in speaking, they have a lot of stereo panning and out of phase information in them really great sounding not every body cup of tea..
