The Laura Fygi Change SACD (not her live @Ronnie Scott's SACD which I've avoided as the discs are all faulty afaik!?) never gets talked about, which is a shame.. I think cos its both obscure and hard to find (a winning combo, not!) but its very nicely recorded, I like the feel of the album (its more upbeat than I imagined) and the surround mix is pretty solid too (y)

Agreed. Change by Laura Fygi is an excellent 5.1 Surround Sound SACD. Definitely worth getting if you can find a copy.

Dear Mr. Sinatra and Honky Chateau are very good in 5.1 SACD Surround as well. Watch track #5 on the Sinatra tribute album, when the band comes in at the beginning of the song, it can be startling! It's recorded Direct to 32 Track DSD via the newer version of the Sonoma DSD Workstation.

And Honky Chateau, that is a must have for any Surround fan just for Honky Cat and Rocket Man in 5.1 Surround. Wow !

Laura Fygi's Live at Ronnie Scott's 5.1 Surround Sound SACD is excellent as well - on the tracks that are playable. It's a shame that the Live SACD has some SACD authoring errors that prevent you from hearing all of the tracks.

I agree there...terrific! Haven't hear it on SACD or in 5.1 but no doubt it would sound awesome for sure. You know MFSL or now known as MOFI isn't the same quality as it once was.. Yeah the younger folks there were taught by Stan Ricker who was with the original Master Engineers for Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. SR/2 is what you'll find on the label part of the record if he mastered it. Sure is a difference in quality...I have a lot of MFSL from the 70's and purchased a a few new ones(after the takeover from Music Direct).
Just one more point! Don't you think there is a monopoly in music today as far as the industry goes. No more of the many lables that were out there now sucked up by music direct, Sony, BMG..That ain't right!!!!!

Primus- STSOC BluRay
ELP-BSS DVD-A (cause I felt like it!-what a great mix!)
Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays- Imaginary Day DVD-A (remember getting this for 19.99 EUR from jpc.de about 5 years ago!)

Thanks bmoura and to Fredblue once again. I have ordered the Laura Fygi Change and won't know til it arrives if its the sacd or not. Picture was sacd but seller cant confirm (Amazon third party). This is another blind jump as I do not know the artist but even if its only a cd I may like it.
I like the Kem II dualdisc, very smooth voice and music. There are some great reccomendations here I am grateful for. Now I need to find some time to listen to the Foo Fighters dvda side, and groove to some Zulu music again.....:smokin

Dual-502-2.jpg
Hi Dennis Moore Jr.
I know Tull released Aqualung....the second album I think was War Child might not be correct here..but I believe only 2 albums were quad...anybody can help here..not sure...don't like give misinformation.

About the gear!! well, I was barely 18 when I started picking up receivers for quad..My Very First Quad receiver was a Fisher 22 watts per channel came with a BSR semi-auto turntable and Fisher Speakers. The Second turntable was a Dual 502?? belt driven, then DBA 10 dolby, pioneer rt-909.got it retail for......600.00 I paid him cash on the spot!! when the unit came in he was upset...because he charged me his price not retail.. take the unit and run that's what I did!! woo hoo

Hahaha, what a small world, the Dual 502 was my first turntable(I still have it) after I graduated from my $60.00 used all in one unit.

I don't know about any LP quad releases, the WarChild I have was from RtR and is clearly a discrete 4.0 mix and it is simply smashing even taking into account the dull character of the sound. (I guess I shouldn't even think about comparing it to one of the recent Steven Wilson classic prog releases 5.1....) War Child is simply delightful and is a whole new experience in 4.0. I think that single experience has made me now a complete 4.0 or 5.1 arrogant bastard. Death to 2.0 I say! Hunt & find & punish the stereo infidel!

Oh here is a picture:

it would be a great find jefe1 if it turns out to be the Fygi Change SACD (y) I'm keeping all my fingers crossed for you! I only got it this year, it was really tough to find, I just couldn't find it on eBay or Amazon for sensible money until this March and I'd been actively looking for some time (there was one on eBay earlier in the year for €129..and it was only the 2nd copy to come up for sale there since I started searching for it in earnest..!) now I think about it, bmoura is one of only about 3 people I've come across who also has it, its pretty rare, which is a shame as it'd be a popular title with folks here at QQ if only it were more commonplace- the mix, fidelity and album itself are all v.nice.

This is a terrific disc - lovely music and a very immersive surround mix. Thanks for the recommendation. (y)

Picked up a copy of Into The Heart Of The Sangoma - Ann Mortifee (Hybrid MultiChannel SACD) on Amazon for very good price and it ended up being new :)

Well, I would definitely agree that this one has a very nice surround mix, but I am not a fan of the music itself. However the quality of the mix got me wondering, yet again, why other albums aren't receiving the same treatment....albums that would sell many many more copies with barely any, or if any, marketing whatsoever. Thanks for the recommendation, really wish I enjoyed the content more.

Three from the Elton John 5.1 SACD Surround Sound series (all still in stock on the web, by the way!):
* Elton John (Rocket B0003607-36)
* Elton John - Madman Across the Water (Rocket B0003610-36)
* Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection (Rocket B0003611-36)

I have my fingers crossed that it is the SACD you're getting. If so, you're in for a treat. An excellent 5.1 Surround Sound SACD by a fine singer.

The World's Greatest Audiophile Vocal Recordings (Chesky SACD-323)
A best of selection of 12 songs from Chesky's SACD and CD catalog. Some excellent female and male vocalists here, recorded in Chesky's very subtle and ambient Surround Sound format.

Rebecca Pidegon - Retrospective (Chesky SACD-242)
A compilation of 13 songs by Rebecca Pidgeon. Includes her classic version of "Spanish Harlem" - used by many an audiophile equipment maker over the years to show off the sonics of their products.

Livingston Taylor - Ink (Chesky SACD-253)
James Taylor's brother Livingston performs 13 acoustic favorites here. Very much like JT in his singing and performance.

A note - the first two SACDs (World's Greatest and Rebecca Pidgeon Retrospective) are still available in very limited quantities via Amazon.Com.
I'd recommend nabbing these soon if you're interested !

As for the Livingston Taylor, we'll have to wait for a DSD Download on that one. Now out of print.

A beautiful Dual, Dennis.

I still like the mid-to-late seventies tables built on a metal base plate with a separate wood base the best. Here is my BIC 1000 and it is currently playing Chopin's "Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise for Piano and Orchestra" from the Chopin Vox Box in QS.

very good point! It is extraordinary (and excruciating!) that so many times small labels and under-the-radar artists can do these surround things and do them right, with what one imagines are tiny/modest budgets, yet the majors can't or don't...@:

Two favorites in 5.1 SACD Surround Sound from Epic:
  • Jeff Beck - Blow by Blow (Epic ES 85440)
  • Ginuwine - The Life (Epic ES 69622)

Two of my favourites too! Blow By Blow is an absolutely stunning Quad (one of the airiest, most open/spacious Quad mixes I've ever heard! it positively breathes) and the Ginuwine is one of those early 5.1 Sony's that got it so right with the mix - if it were a Hybrid I bet it would get more love/attention now, its superb!
