KC- LTIA BD LPCM ...
This one is MUCH trickier cause of the dynamics....gotta RUN for the volume knob when it kicks in!!!...meaning..man finally an LP with dynamics gets the ROYAL TREATMENT...wow...thanks RF and Neil and everyone involved on getting us this LP on HiRes SURROUND..

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that this would come true!

aamof, now that I write this, ...I prefer this to "Flying cars" or "hovering cities", as in, the future that was "promised" to us....

anyway, flying cars is a DANGEROUS option...they are dangerous enough ..on the ground!

Three 5.1 Surround Sound SACDs on Verve with the Surround Sound Mix by Producer/Engineer Al Schmitt:
  • Natalie Cole - Ask a Woman Who Knows (Verve 589 915-2)
  • Diana Krall - The Look of Love (Verve 589 597-2)
  • Diana Krall - When I Look in Your Eyes (Verve 065 374-2)

Earth Wind & Fire-Gratitude SACD...really great release with extra songs not included on the LP!!!! Awesome sounding...lemme check...nope..cutoff at 21K more or less...still sounds FABBO!!

Natalie Cole and Diana Krall are a few of mine favorites as well!! wonderful choices there..just love the voices...

Same here. The Natalie Cole Surround Sound SACD includes a song with both Cole and Krall. Excellent Surround listening !

Two of my favourites too! Blow By Blow is an absolutely stunning Quad (one of the airiest, most open/spacious Quad mixes I've ever heard! it positively breathes) and the Ginuwine is one of those early 5.1 Sony's that got it so right with the mix - if it were a Hybrid I bet it would get more love/attention now, its superb!

Yes, excellent. By the way, the Surround Mix on The Life by Ginuwine was done by Producer/Engineer Jimmy Douglass who also was responsible for the 5.1 Surround Sound SACD mix of Midnight Love by Marvin Gaye. That SACD includes the hit Sexual Healing in 5.1 Surround! Very cool.

There's also the Marvin Gaye Collection in SACD Surround Sound. Another real treat for music fans. Copies of that are selling on eBay for $15.

Three from Impulse and Verve, mixed to 5.1 SACD Surround by Al Schmitt:
  • Herbie Hancock - Gershwin's World (Verve B0001379-36)
  • Diana Krall - Love Scenes (Impulse B0002841-36)
  • Diana Krall - The Girl In The Other Room (Verve B0002293-36)

I picked that up new/sealed in the UK for about £8! It's superb :)

I've been raving on about it for years! It got some pretty shoddy reviews when it first came out, from people criticising the surround mix for being too gimmick-y/active!@: the surround mix is anything but! its playful, exciting, engaging on the uptempo numbers and immersive and atmospheric on the slower sultry numbers.. a wholly appropriate multichannel mix, very discrete and very effective! some real highlights, e.g. Marvin's vocals hard in the centre on most tracks - switch off all other channels and you'll hear all the heavenly glory of his beautiful voice in isolation! In Ain't No Mountain High Enough, Marvin's vocals are up front and then out of a place called sonic nirvana Tammi Terrell's voice suddenly kicks in in the rears - astonishingly good!

The Natalie Cole, Joe Henderson & Shirley Horn are the three surround slackers in all the Verve Hybrid SACDs.. Shirley & Nat have great fidelity while the Joe Henderson has pretty average sound quality but the surround mixes aren't very discrete and are pretty uninvolving & lacking in excitement.

..the rest vary from great (the Diana Krall's)
..to excellent (Herbie goes Gershwin-nana's)
..to exceptional (David Sanborn's timeagain, Aaron Neville's Nature Boy).

I have to say the last two are absolutely wonderful and essential for surround nuts - the Aaron Neville in particular has yet another superlative Elliot Scheiner surround mix. Don't already have it? Get it, you will not regret it.

Just gave Brian Wilson's "Imagination" DTS-CD a once over. Can't say I was totally impressed by either the song craft or the 5.1 mix. Both were kinda 'meh' :(

Hahaha, what a small world, the Dual 502 was my first turntable(I still have it) after I graduated from my $60.00 used all in one unit.

I don't know about any LP quad releases, the WarChild I have was from RtR and is clearly a discrete 4.0 mix and it is simply smashing even taking into account the dull character of the sound. (I guess I shouldn't even think about comparing it to one of the recent Steven Wilson classic prog releases 5.1....) War Child is simply delightful and is a whole new experience in 4.0. I think that single experience has made me now a complete 4.0 or 5.1 arrogant bastard. Death to 2.0 I say! Hunt & find & punish the stereo infidel!

Oh here is a picture:

I love those Duals

Listened to Santana (first album) (SQ) tonight on the Surround Master. Wow. This is really good quad! It takes one of the best albums of all time and takes it to the next level. The stereo was good but I dont think I could ever go back now.

Listened to Earth, Wind & Fire Head To the Sky (SQ). This was also amazing. "Zanzibar" is a real trip.

Listened to some of Sly and the Family Stone Greatest Hits (SQ). This is pretty great at parts. Sometimes it leaves you wanting more though.

Listened to "Your Momma Don't Dance" off of Loggins and Messina (SQ). Pretty good.

Also listened to The Best Of Mountain (SQ). This was really awesome.

The Surround Master is decoding these beautifully.
