Fred, you're right. I have the 2001 version. I'm checking the DR on the 2-channel now.

I have the 2002 DVD-A UK release on Parlophone (of Queen ANATO - there's been a lot of other postings). Being a Queen collector I also have the 2005 DVD-V which I never listen to, and the BDA has just arrived which I will be listening to the stereo quite carefully. Up to now my original EMI non re-mastered CD is the best stereo version I have.

If you can find an Oppo BDP-93 that hasn't had its firmware updated to remove ISO playback? :) oh and don't ever update it after that of course!

Or an Oppo 95 with ISO playback software. Mine came with it but in a fit of foolishness I upgraded to play a friend's blu ray and now I can't downgrade.

A favorite on Virgin Records in 5.1 Multichannel SACD Surround:

  • Roxy Music - Avalon (Virgin ROXYSACD-9)

Some cool Bossa Nova from Jacintha and smooth Jazz from Fourplay in Multichannel SACD Surround Sound
  • Jacintha - The Girl from Bossa Nova (Groove Note GRV 1026-3)
  • Fourplay - Energy (Heads Up HUSA 9146)

have you had a chance to play the Stereo on the BDA yet?

An overlooked but excellent 5.1 Surround Sound SACD from Universal Music in Europe
  • Ennio Morricone & Dulce Pontes - Focus (Universal 980 829-3)

what's the surround mix like on the Jacintha SACD?

The SACD is an excellent recording with an all-star team including Stereophile's Joe Harley as Producer, Michael Ross handling the Engineering and Mixing and Lon Neumann from the Super Audio Center doing the DSD Authoring. The Surround mix fits the music well. The vocals and most of the instruments are up front with some ambience and musical accents in the Surround Channels. An excellent bossa nova album, easily one of the best SACDs by Jacintha.

Linda...your Avatar looks cute but why so blue? :D

I have the Talking Heads box set (DualDisc) and only listened to the extra tracks on the CD side of one album, "Speaking In Tongues" a couple of times. Most of my other DVD-A and SACD discs have rarely, if ever, been listened to. Not sure what is wrong with me on that front.

Thank you as ever for the great info! I've had my eye on her SACDs for some time, so I guess I'll have to scour around for best prices now.

The Morricone/Dulce Pontes is nice as you say.. but its stupidly super rare. I only know 2-3 other people who have it, which is a shame as it'd get more recognition if more people heard it, I reckon.

I doubt I've ever played the 2ch information on any Blu-Ray-A, SACD 5.1 or DVD-A that I own. In fact, I don't think I've ever played the Dullby or DTS tracks on any advanced res disc. On hybrid SACD's, I've played the CD layer on very few.

I only got to listen to the Dolby & DTS on my old DVD-A's (and CD layer only on the few hybrid SACDs I had! can you imagine?!) for the first few years (5+) of buying these discs, as I couldn't afford a DVD-A or SACD player (and Universal machines weren't an option either) and had to make do with playing them lossy!

once I got to hear Adv'd Res DVD-A & Surround SACD, around 07-08, that was it --- I got a Pioneer the next day - and was hooked! even though I'd enjoyed DD & DTS (mostly movies but music too) for yonks it was literally a revelation! the last 5-ish years have been particularly full-on fun fun fun and the most amazing ear-opening journey!!
