One more before I hit the sack. Recorded just before Hicks's death. If you like the "Chesky Sound," this one, recorded in St. Peter's Episcopal Church in NYC is bound to make you soar . . .

For some reason I never seem to make it past the first 5 songs... but tonight I will!

Hope so! "End Of The Day" and "Little One" are two of my favorites.

Also - if you want to see all six channels on the waveform monitor, right click it and select "side left" and "side right" in addition to "rear left" and "rear right". When I first started using Foobar, I couldn't figure why on some albums it would show all the channels and for others it would omit the rears. I guess it's a metadata thing - on some mixes, the back channels are labelled as the "rears", while others call them the "sides".

Thank you! That's been driving me crazy :)

I know! I added that plugin around the time the Chicago Quadio set came out and it would only show the fronts - blasphemy!

Just did me a big solid also, before I didn't see the bottom couple of waves; also saw that I could change color of the background, went to black and now the wave forms stand out much better - Piano me...

well there was only one disc that was ever gonna make it out first into the player when a DV batch included an MFSB Quad...

listening to now in the most sumptuous surround,
that sounds so scrummy i'm on the verge of weeping with joy...

M.F.S.B. "Philadelphia Freedom"

you can crank and crank - and crank this one, sound quality is astonishing.

ok, we're at track 7 now ("When Your Love Is Gone") and this is so delectable.. i am literally crying tears of utter Quadraphonic bliss.

bow tie funk at its finest, couched in pretty much the most modern surround sound you'll hear in an old Quad mix.

Arthur Stoppe, you are a legend.
Michael J. Dutton, you genius.

sensational.

well here's the Quad master tapes right here, no rub a dub dub lets get in the tub there's a pic of them right there in the booklet!! 🤩

Now that is cool! Is this a new trend on the D-V releases? Perhaps it won't be long until we start seeing the gold Columbia SQ labels in the booklet (one of my favorite aspects of the AF releases)...

ahh i don't know where they'd get their LP label images from! haha.. we might have a few SQ records between us all at QQ we can scan in for them if they ever need them! :ROFLMAO:

meantime, i think the biggest most pleasant surprise of this new batch is what i'm absolutely lapping up now which is the Donald Byrd "Black Byrd" SACD! :smokin

it starts out with a jet plane wooshing over your head and is so God-daaaaaamned funky it should come with a government health warning!

sublime.

They did this at my instigation - Mike prefers to let the sound of his discs do the talking, but I got annoyed at all the speculation here about the provenance of D-V's discs so I thought this would be a cool way to kill two birds with one stone. I think it pretty definitively establishes the source tapes for the MFSB disc, and as a quad collector I thought it was really cool to be able to see the master tapes, which probably haven't seen the light of day (especially the discrete 4 channel masters) since Arthur Stoppe finished mixing them in late 1975. You'd have to imagine that before they appeared in the D-V booklet, probably only a handful of people in the world had ever seen them.

I was never really a fan of seeing the Columbia gold labels in booklets (a quick google image search will turn all of them up, so I don't see the big deal) but I do love seeing master tape boxes. There's at least one more upcoming disc that will feature them, and I'll continue to reccomend using them where possible. There are a number of contributing factors to that happening though - including space constraints because of liner notes, and many master tape boxes are not much to look a (they just have the album name and song titles scribbled on them, so they're not worth including) and also that including this kind of thing requires approval from the major that D-V licenses from.
