After watching the documentary, In Search Of Terry Kath, or something like that on AXSTV I had to listen to this surround blu ray.

Television STILL has no picture! I think it's the addict in me that keeps turning it on, expecting it work this time! Any recs for a new, big-aspect monitor? These daze I mostly watch Bluray movies and listen to surround . . . but I digress--this morning I listened to the copy of the SACD of

that arrived whilst I was in Japan. I also have the Bluray Audio. When I was enjoying @edisonbaggins 's Life in Surround Mother's Day Special, Mike mentioned that his mom had his Bluray copy of the release because she and his stepdad think it sounds best; Mike's vote goes to the SACD (I think--hey, Mike, maybe you could add the releases you cover in these big extravaganzas into the description, and maybe even a little breakdown on your assessments . . . everyone's a critic, no?). Any hoo, it was my intention to do an A-B (no C; don't own the DVD-A) punchout of the releases for myself, but . . . did I mention my damn tv has no picture! Well, I can still pop an SACD into the ol' Sony Bluray player and start my day off in surround!

Maybe the Blu-ray will play if you hit enter? Or does it absolutely need the TV on?

Hearing this makes me wish Vocalion could find a Quad!

Interestingly enough, there may actually be one, or part of one, anyway. When I was speaking to Arthur Stoppe from Sigma Sound last year, one of the things I asked him about was the Spinners quad albums that were mixed at Sigma.

He told me that they did the initial quad mix of the self-titled album (the one that has I'll Be Around and Could it be I'm Falling in Love on it) that Atlantic rejected it, and sent them back a reel with quad mixes of some of their other artists to give the engineers an idea of how they wanted the quad mix to sound. Most of the names that Arthur listed were ones that came out in quad early on (Bette Midler, etc.) but there was one that didn't - Dr. John.

I did some investigating, and around the time that Warner/Elektra/Atlantic got in to quad in 1973, Dr. John was doing a lot of recording either at Criteria Studios in Miami (where Tom Dowd mixed all of the early Atlantic quad albums, Aretha, Bette Midler, Donny Hathaway etc.) or working with engineers who mixed quad like Ron and Howie Albert (Bill Wyman Monkey Grip) and Karl Richardson (Eric Clapton There's One in Every Crowd).

So I don't know if Mr. Stoppe was mis-remembering (which seems unlikely given how nearly-100% accurate his memories of everything else are) or if they only mixed a track or two for demonstration purposes, but with W/E/A seeming to be the label with the most unreleased quad mixes (at least if the rumours are true) it wouldn't surprise me if there's one (or more) quad mixes of Dr. John albums circa '71-'73 sitting in the Warners vaults.

I absolutely LOVE the polls on this site. When I made the trip to Japan last year, I picked up

It was way cool for me to hear this album in surround. When I found quadraphonicquad.com less than two months later, the polls hipped me to an even better mix. Upon returning from Japan this year, one of the Discogs purchases waiting for me was

WOW! 1972 Quad mix!!!! Thanks, comrades, for all the wisdom and insight and joy of this site! Peace

Art Garfunkel - Breakaway

I still can't get enough of this title. It's so rich and full. Super immersive with nice little discreet pieces here and there. Art is on top of his game with this one. As I've said before...it's my very favorite Vocalion release.

In fact, I'm so fond of it....I just ordered 2 more copies from DV. I will keep these in a safe place. :) Pass along to my boys.

When I saw Art live last week....he sang my very favorite song.... 99 Miles From LA. He killed it. Very emotional piece. :)
