Steven Wilson - To The Bone; Blu-ray LPCM 5.1

As with most of Wilson’s solo work, I had to force myself to an abstinence period following the original purchase or I’d listen to it ad nauseam. Just started cranking To The Bone a few minutes ago after being away from it all summer.

What a freakin’ incredible album and accompanying 5.1 mix. This is chill inducing stuff and I beg any fellow surround enthusiasts that don’t yet have this in their collections to get their mitts on it immediately. It’s an aural orgasm!

Spring Fever : Rick Derringer (1/2 a DV SACD 2-fer)

"..don't ever say goodbye,
i love you past the day i die,
don't ever go away,
i need you more and more each day.."

well worth getting your cigarette lighter out for 💥

this record's a bit of an overlooked gem imho (especially stacked up next to his hit "All American Boy")... but when couched in an accomplished multichannel mix that i reckon brings out the best in the ballads and the belters alike, you're in top tier territory from a surround point of view with material that's maybe been viewed with less of a glowing frame of reference over the years? ah i dunno.. screw the critics, i love it! 😍

ps. 🤭 there aren't many Quads i've heard more discrete-o-crazy than track 5.... let's...

ROCCCCKKKK!!!!

I’ve held off purchasing the Derringer two-fer. You may have tipped the scales for me, my man!

listening to now in sumptuous surround sound...

The Hues Corporation DV 2-fer ("Rockin' Soul" & "Love Corporation")

"oh, if only i could be a part of that scene again,
on the inside looking out
and not the outside looking in..
oh baby, baby, baby, how i wish
we could do it all again,
do it all again..."

for what's possibly been seen by some as fairly lightweight disco fodder over the years, this disc has some seriously good surround stuff going on.. woo is it ever discrete!!

rock that boat and tip the whole thing over, i wanna dive head first into this kind of quality surround music and not come up for air til it's over! ..and even then i may just hit the repeat button! hehe.. :dance

If you're open to other music from the same era as Monteverdi, Polychoral Splendour offers an excellent discrete surround mix of music by Heinrich Schütz and Giovanni Gabrieli.

So glad to hear it's blowing your mind! ✨🤩✨ Audite did a fantastic job with that one. Can't wait for someone to create a mind blowing 11-ch Hirez surround recording of polychoral splendour in one of these cathedrals...🦇 gargoyles thrown in as a bonus. LOL!!

You might also be interested in this magnificent recording. It's a selection of variations by Italian composer Costanzo Festa. Bach's Goldbergs and Beethoven's Diabelli variations might be more famous these days, but these variations by this Italian Renaissance master are equally imaginative and moving. The music is mostly instrumental with only a few vocal sections. The Huelgas Ensemble conducted by Paul Van Nevel give an excellent performance full of atmosphere and depth. Harmonia Mundi's multichannel recording is not ultra discrete, but rather wonderfully immersive.

This would not even have been on my radar had I not seen it on the @edisonbaggins wall of fame in Life in Surround videos. I figured, well, Mike has never steered me wrong . . . except when he has . . . Stay Surrounded!
Don't necessarily take the wall o' discs as a recommendation! Generally, there's some very cool stuff up there. Some oddballs though!
When in doubt, drop me a line!
What do you think of the BTO?
