Walked on cliffs above beach south of Half Moon Bay, got a super chicken burrito in HMB and a diet coke, feeling good. Listening to this for the first time all the way through, sounds great, except the fuzzy sound rear left on track two, I don't like.

Survival & Family Reunion : The O'Jays

tears of joy.. you have no idea how long and how much i craved hearing this stuff in discrete surround... to say the experience doesn't disappoint feels like a real understatement, this is simply stunning.

these Quad treasures given such beautiful and respectful treatment is the stuff my dreams are made of. i don't want to wake up.

its a batshit crazy but beautiful ol' Quad!

I started out with the AF stereo MusicMagic. I liked the instrumental parts but the singing threw me off. I bought the DV quad strictly because I wanted to try a quad title.
The quad was so well balanced that the vocals fit right in. I actually enjoy the singing now. It's become one of my favorite listens.
Try as I might I just can't get into the singing on EW&F.
I have heard such positive reviews of the DV quad by EW&F. Since the DV quad is such a great mix perhaps I will learn to enjoy it just like I did with MusicMagic.

Quad (and multichannel generally i'd suggest) can have a way of somehow making some music get under the skin more than the Stereo..

Musicmagic was one of those albums i dismissed when i was exploring Return To Forever's catalogue years ago, to the point where it was their only album i never bought on CD at all. in Stereo it just lay there, kinda flat, uninspiring.

fast forward through the years.. and hearing the Quad, even just from decoded SQ LP was for me quite the revelatory experience, these other worldly sounds suddenly made sense, the exquisite interplay and overall musicianship all just clicked in Quad.

why this might happen for some, i have no idea (you'll hear people dismiss Quad, "bah i've got 2 ears, bugger off with your extra speakers!" etc..) so i just put it down to a feeling that the best Quad music gives me and go with the flow.

it engages me and heightens my senses in a way precious little else does these days.. when i close my eyes the room disappears.. with the new O'Jays disc for example every little detail has its own place in the space nothing is cluttered yet its all so natural.. every instrument, every beat, every harmomy, occupies its' own little part of the soundscape in my head. which is.. pretty awesome, i reckon.

Listening now to 4.0 Japanese SACD, Disc 1. Very powerful and awesome sounding. I like the feel and the music better than Bitches Brew. Love the 7" cover with it's sort of metallic cover. Read a little Wikipedia and Miles playing trumpet with wah wah pedal.
