I only wish NAXOS had put more effort in selecting and mastering their BD~As, Mike. The rear channels were almost inaudible and frankly sounded better in STEREO and their choice of repertoire was disappointing, as well.

That is crazy weather …..looks like another thing that's cock-eyed at the moment.

Boris is slowly on the mend and out of intensive care but still in hospital.
Thanks to our wonderful NHS staff, of which, we have already lost too many, thanks to this virus.

But then It's the same all around the world Ralphie, each country has fantastic people trying their hardest to care for those in need.
I read world and our news on a very regular basis.

A&M's quads range from being super-discrete (Quincy Jones, Billy Preston, Joan Baez) to faked/upmixed from stereo (Herb Alpert, Carole King).

Ah! Warm weather? Freaking cold here today...in fact, we're set up to have another week of below normal temps. I hate it. We actually have a freeze warning 2 nights next week.

Vocals are prominently in front and I don't notice a strong double stereo effect.
I see what you're saying though. Not real discrete.
I think the fidelity is good and I like the way it fills the room

I dunno which Ozark Mountain Daredevils you have, but my copy is definitely a real (discrete) quad mix with the vocals in the front and the drums in the rear. There's a touch of reverb of front instruments in the rear and vice versa, but there's no way you're faking separation like that, espeically with 1974 technology.

I also wouldn't categorise the 60s stuff they put out in quad like Herb Alpert and Burt Bacharach as fake or upmixes either - there's definitely a bit of front/rear separation on these too, though not to the same degree as anything done in the 70s - most likely they were sourced from 3-track (like Miles Davis Kind of Blue) or 4-track multitracks.

The only A&M stuff that strikes me as outright fakery (aside from Tapestry) are the albums recorded in the UK like pre-Foreigner Cat Stevens, Humble Pie Smokin', and the two Joe Cocker albums. I think the unspectacular results with the 3 and 4 track remixes of 60s stuff illustrate why the other major labels mostly or exclusively remixed contemporary 70s material rather than going back into their vaults for older material.
