Joe Henry

This album would be worth owning even if it only documented Joe’s collaboration with Ornette Coleman on “Richard Pryor Addresses a Tearful Nation.” But thankfully there’s far more to it that that. I see this album as the turning point in JH’s catalog, moving from 90s folk-rocker with occasional experiments with electronic weirdness (cf. “Fuse”) to a mature artist who has found his voice and has learned how to make the music he was put on the planet to create, as both artist and producer. The band on “Scar” is out of this world: Brian Blade, Brad Mehldau, Marc Ribot... just a tremendous album, overall. If you appreciate JH and haven’t gotten into this one yet, get it immediately. Joe is one of our truly great American artists.

IMHO, Kind of Blue is a fantastic album. The 5.1 re-creation is forgettable, at best. Ditto for Brubeck's Time Out. Although I haven't bought the 3 channel version of Blue, I'd expect it's better than the 5.1 SACD. I'll get it soon. My 12th copy of this classic. As much as I dig surround, I'd rather listen to this as 2ch or synthesized Quad through one of my decoders.

Monster's release of Sketches is outstanding. My 6th copy of this classic. I don't know what they did, but it's one of the few synthesized surround recordings that I love. Get it!

AP's 3-ch Someday My Prince SACD is the one to own. I had previously bought a Japan 2ch SACD and MoFi Silver CD. Both of those sound good, albeit 2ch.

Guys and gals, I appreciate your frustration over absent polls. Please be patient. Several mods are working with our administrator to improve some of the system's capabilities. Better capabilities than the old QQ related to archival things, polls, and more. Many new things in the works...

Caveat: please don't bombard the Mods, myself included, with requests for new polls. We truly value all your opinions. Mods working on polls, etc. already have new things in the works. There are literally thousands of surround releases that we've yet to create polls for! Holy Quad, Batman!

Late last year, I began researching candidates for new Quad Legacy polls. Kudos to Ed for doing a fantastic job. I've researched using my collection, Mark Anderson's fine Quad discography, and other sources including listening to them again. I have had 15 titles earmarked for new polls for a couple months. Vacations, Holidays and assorted things consumed many days. When I'll have the time to delve in is anybody's guess. I need a block of time when I can provide my undivided attention. A learning curve.

Often, my only time on QQ becomes when I'm taking a smoke break, waiting in line, at an appointment, or waiting for my food while dining in at a restauraunt. Remember sit-down restaurants? Ahem. Often, I've no time to post, but give likes. QQ, you tube, Google Images and shopping for new music are down the rabbit hole for me. I've so many interests along those lines, that avoiding them sometimes becomes a necessity.

Believe it or not, I'm much busier during the stay-at-home order. Am I Bored? You're kidding, right? I'm cooking nearly every meal, since I have a husband who is working at home for the duration. 3 or 4 meals a week were the norm before, not 15 or 20. ...not complaining, just saying...

I'm retired. Joe works full time. So, I forbid him to cook, do laundry, shopping etc. To me, that's fair. He has never demanded that I do anything. Could you imagine that?? Me either. To quote my late, GREAT Mother-in-Law, "How did I ever fit in working full time?!!?"

A week ago, I spent most of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday just getting someone to give me an injection that I get every 2 weeks. A 10 minute task. Oh, I had a Dr. appt. scheduled for weeks. Their office phoned me late the previous afternoon to inform me that their office will be closed and perhaps re-opening in June! I later found out that the Hospital's remote Immediate Care facility in the same building was also closed. Virus issues, no doubt.

I could have injected myself. Bad idea since Dr. advised me not to. I might hit the sciatic. I called and visited clinics, EMT's, drug store that sold it... Finally, I went to the Hospital. Thankfully, the hospital was empty. The Nurse in charge said, "You're kidding! No one could/would inject you?" It was in a grey area, so they injected me after three hours. Three days shot to hell. Could have been CD shopping or on QQ. I now have future appts scheduled. Will those get canceled, too?

OK, we have it easy compared to lots of folks, including some here. I empathize. Many things we can't do or get. Dokken and Johnny Rivers concerts we have tix for, now postponed. Lots more to come. Minor inconveniences compared to contracting the virus and/or lost income.

What can you do to help create new polls, etc.? Please keep your posts free of politics, antagonistic comments, etc. If you have info on someone's passing or a news scoop, please check to make sure no other members have begun a thread. Music Matters and General Discussions forums are good places to check, as are new posts.

I spend as much time fixing oopsies, moving posts and combining threads, as I do reading posts and giving likes. Please try to post comments in the proper threads, ala Matrix LP's added to your pile. Mods can spend more time on things we all love. Your help and cautiousness will be much appreciated! Gracias!

Thanks for reading my Manifesto. Remember, only you can prevent forest fires.

PS: I miss baseball!!

Your Manifesto has me as a signed up member Linda!!
What a heart felt message to all of us here on QQ.
And I, for one, like straight talking.
Some of us get over enthusiastic, with our frustration, on getting our personal choices in a Poll listing.
Me included.
Big hugs to you.

Thanks for ALL you do! You are appreciated. Let me take you to a baseball game when all of this is over! Jazz and baseball--America's greatest contributions to the world. Well, since there's no baseball, Ima stay in my Miles groove:
1586618863393.png

as far as polls go, i certainly don't mean to overwhelm. i'm just trying to turn QQers on to polls that exist, polls that are under appreciated, and releases i can't believe don't have polls (my gob was straight-up smacked that In A Silent Way is sans poll). there was a thread to which i was posting that seemed to be asking what releases need polls, but i can't seem to find it. if my posting about releases without polls has caused you any pain, i am deeply sorry. i'll not do it again. but i will let e'eryone know that this release has a POLL! and voting on our polls will not expose you to any viruses, so, since i am just north of Chi and spent a LOT of my daze there--vote early; vote often! Stay Surrounded, Comrades!

No pain, Clement. It's all good, and so are you. Don't worry about crying out for a new poll. If you complain to the wrong people, you'll wind up creating polls like me. Be careful what you ask for... LOL!! The title I requested a poll for has one in the works...by me!!

Sure, polls carry no viruses. Your wallet probably thinks otherwise.

Sorry to be so verbose before. I didn't even mention all of my bizarre experiences regarding that dumb injection. Twilight Zone.

My vote for "Quad reissue of the year" would be Live/Evil. 2 SQ LP was my first copy and favorite, until this one. If you like post-Bitches Brew Miles, you need this SACD multi.

For 4 years, I had an old greystone 8 blocks from Wrigley, two doors down from Rahmbo. Thankfully, he wasn't mayor yet. It later became a zoo with people protesting up and down the block. Glad I moved back to the 'burbs.

I live far north of you. Even though Evanston borders Chicago's North side, you're "over by 'dere'" on the sout' side compared to us. LOL!! I used to manage the Pacific Stereo on Church st. in Evanston.

errands await
