The only A&M stuff that strikes me as outright fakery (aside from Tapestry) are the albums recorded in the UK like pre-Foreigner Cat Stevens, Humble Pie Smokin', and the two Joe Cocker albums
I know the consensus is that Tapestry is the only one of the Carole King quads that's completely fake, but honestly I don't think the other three are much better. I bought the Music Q8 expecting to hear some decent separation (based on that chart that comes with the QS LP showing the instrument locations), but it still seems like everything that's in the rears is still audible at like 30-50% volume in the front.
I know it's not the point of quad or surround in general to have isolated instruments shooting out of different speakers (and it doesn't always work), but on some of these A&M titles it feels like you have to listen really closely to pick up on what's coming from where.
My favorites from A&M are The Carpenters' Now & Then, Billy Preston's Music Is My Life, and Quincy Jones' Body Heat.
