Wow, with an endorsement like that I have to find a copy.
If you like the album in stereo, you will be completely blown away by the multichannel mix. I have all of Goldfrapp's albums but for me, Tales Of Us is their masterpiece. I also have the multichannel SACD of Supernature but that is one of their dance/electronica albums and is completely different. The 5.1 mastering on Tales Of Us is done by Will Gregory from the duo - it's quite rare that a musician from a band is directly involved with the multichannel mix. Goldfrapp wanted to make a completely different album from what they had previously done. They wanted to reference a lush, sweeping, cinematic sound world, which is why they went for a 30 piece orchestra for the recording.

Music shaped like soundtracks can really stimulate a unique emotional response. For me, the difference between the stereo CD of Tales Of Us and the multichannel DVD DTS 5.1 mix, bares comparison to listening to the Vangelis Blade Runner soundtrack CD, versus the multichannel mix on the 4K UHD of Blade Runner. Increased separation and space, increased dynamics and immersion. It's easy to get totally lost in the music.

Björk - Volta (2007)

Another one I haven't listened to in a while. This is a really great Björk album, filled to the brim with Björk björking it up and generally outbjörking herself. Importantly, it's also a great 5.1 mix, with Björk björking at you from all directions.

The packaging is annoying, though. I guess it's great for people who enjoy being annoyed by packaging.

It's too bad that this is the last album she put out in the 5.1 format.

Out of the 250 multichannel discs I own, I count this as the very best. The songs Drew and Stranger in multichannel take music to a level that I previously only have experienced while watching a movie.
I know NOTHING about this. I've never heard of Goldfrapp. But going to that link and listening ever so briefly, my first impression was that this is what Billy Eilish will sound like when she matures. Pretty wonderful, actually.

I've never taken the time to even comprehend what Bjork's music means. All I know is, when I try to listen, within 5 minutes, I'm shutting it down. I know, I know. Whatever...hahaha

I think that with the songs it generates a game. you have to find among her songs which melody of what she sings fits with the melody of the music that sounds.
I was amused because in a Spanish TV program, “Spanish people around the world”, one was dedicated to Iceland. They interviewed a Spanish taxidermist who said that one of her main clients was her, who commissioned him stuffed crows.

This woman will soon be a grandmother ... poor grandchildren😂😂

Hey @4-earredwonder, you recently sang the praises of this one, so I snagged a copy... WOW is it good. Sounds absolutely fantastic, but the melding of styles is just brilliant and highly engaging. I think even for folks who, I've seen it said, "want to be into 'classical' but find it hard in practice..." this one could be their gateway drug! This is Third Stream at it's best!

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call

As I'm making my way through NC&tBS' catalogue, this is a bit of an oddball, thus far anyway... not a single abrasive dissonant sound to be heard, and no violent murder ballad in sight. Just slow-tempo, mostly piano-based, love and breakup songs.

The surround mix is, again, not aggressive, but appropriate for the music--with vocals in the front channels and the piano across all channels.

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call

Did you notice how on “Into My Arms”, one of my absolute favorites from him, they weirdly used an alternate vocal for the choruses of the surround mix? He sings a soft “t” on the word “into” instead of the annunciated, more rhythmic performance on the well known stereo version. I can’t imagine why they did that. It drives me nuts, it’s amazing how much it bothers me and changes the whole feel of the song!

I got to get out of here, but just a little listen to the audio ripped out of the DVD-V, 5.1 24/48 DR Avg probably around 12.
The first track ONE is very cool cuz it's the actual sound from the video with the talking in the hospital, etc.
There are other tracks that do the same, just like the Cinderella 5.1 Video Hits.
