Ben Folds CONCERTO for PIANO and ORCHESTRA with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra [NEW WEST Records/DTS 5.1/Recorded/Mixed by Elliot Scheiner/Mastered by Bob Ludwig]

Roughly 20 minutes in duration and actually part of Ben Folds full length album So There, this limited edition DTS CD nonetheless has its charms. Really wish the entire album was remixed into 5.1 but according to the 'blurb' on the album's rear, it was most probably commissioned as a 'freebie' for the 2016 Acura's ELS car system as a demo disc.

Listening to this one based on recent chatter here - does everyone's DVD side play without issue? My track #2 doesn't want to play through, I get about 8 seconds of it and then it jumps to track #3. This happens in both the Dolby 2.0 and 5.1 settings (on the DVD side, I could check the CD side but I don't care too much over there). Can't figure out a way around it... everything else seems to play fine and there are no physical anomalies on the disc. Weird. Wondering if I just have a bum copy... it happens in a way that'd actually be pretty easy to miss, so I'm wondering if it's more prevalent and an issue with the pressing...

I got yet another NC&tBS in the mail today, 2003's "Nocturama."

The surround mix is a bit more discrete on this one than it is on the 5.1 mixes I've heard thus far of their albums. The last song in particular, the very noisy "Babe, I'm on fire," has instrumental noise going wild coming at you from all directions.

Speaking of noise, I don't know how I missed it but I didn't realize until just now, when I was reading about this album, that the Bad Seeds' guitarist, Blixa Bargeld, is also the main guy from the band Einstürzende Neubauten. Now there's a band I'd like to hear in 5.1. Hear that, Mr Wilson?

Side note: I appreciate the fact that in all the NC&tSD releases I have thus far, the bonus tracks are also mixed in 5.1.
(The other thing I appreciate about these releases is the lack of menu music. I hate menu music.)

The Band and Guests THE LAST WALTZ [WARNER/RHINO/MLP DVD~A 5.1/48/24] 30 Amazing Tracks in Pristine hi def surround. IMO, a GREAT souvenir of Martin Scorsese's Landmark film!

Yes - the film soundtracks I have on DVD-audio are noticeably better than their blu-ray movies (Koyaanisqatsi, The Last Waltz, Buena Vista Social Club).
