Another two-for....

how are you enjoying this one and the Pure Prairie League, Hamilton59 ?
I'm pleasantly surprised by both of these discs! I've never owned any music from these artists. I was familiar with and liked "Amie & Falling In and Out of Love" and have recently heard several other cuts from PPL on satellite radio so I decided to give them a try. I'm not much of a country music fan but the disc was enjoyable and made good use of the surrounds. Similar with Hues Corporation, I knew "Rock The Boat", and the first track, "Rockin Soul", sounded familiar but it's been a fun listen so far ... Another plus, my wife is enjoying these discs too!

Next up, another new disc with only one familiar song....

Johnnie Taylor - Eargasm & Rated Extraordinaire

Rubber Soul in Surround. Terrible mix. Voice comes out of every speaker, I think even the subwoofer. Buit on Michelle the guitars that start it are 3 in the rear speakers, one in front center, and the strings glisten. i can hear high sounds never audible on LP.
Is that the "unofficial" dts version from Asia??

Howdy Lute, looks intriguing; the only one of theirs I’ve got is this one ( and I’ve got to be in the right mood to enjoy it.)

Hi Pupster,
Yes, Anonymous 4‘s recordings are wonderful, as is the music of Hildegard von Bingen. It’s very peaceful and relaxing music. Anonymous 4‘s “The Origin of Fire (Hildegard von Bingen)“ is also nice. But the surround mix on these SACDs is only ambient. The rear channels help fill out the soundstage, but I see these SACDs are going for high prices. I am not sure if they are worth big bucks. At a reasonable price, these SACDs can be warmly recommended.

A true immersive surround mix can be found on the Huelgas-Ensemble’s “40 Voices“ conducted by Paul Van Nevel. The singers were recorded in a semicircle. The surround mix has a nice wrap-around effect.
