Andy Jackson ‎– 73 Days At Sea
DTS 5.1 multichannel mix

"A fascinating album from an interesting character who has been enveloped in the world of Pink Floyd for much of his career.
The surround sound experience continues to demonstrate Jackson’s incredible creative force as an audio engineer. Instruments and vocals are extremely smooth and well balanced throughout the album, delivering an all-encompassing multi-channel aural journey"

I just received my copy after reading this post. Yes, I think it might require multiple listenings as mainly the vocals are a bit strange. The vocals kind of reminds me of Chris Rea with some electronic manipulation, and are a bit scary. It would be great if it was just instrumental.

Just ordered this one

Not exactly sure what you meant about the Centre & LFE, but you just reminded me that I have that disc, but don’t think I have listened to it. Thanks for the reminder 👍🏼

ah nay bother! 🤗 i removed the Centre channel & LFE from the files, didn't feel they were needed and 4-channel was the way to go with this one 🙂

The "5.1 mix" on that DVD is actually a digital transfer of the 1974 quadraphonic version of the album - the center & LFE channels were artificially generated from the four-track master. The front soundstage should appear more seamless once the fake center is removed.

all true! 😋 keeping or chucking the LFE is more down to taste/personal preference and setup i guess? its kinda bright sounding so it could probably do with some help but i'm enjoying it anyway, just not cranked to balls to the wall levels 😆

i wish..! :D i passed on it when i saw it cheap a couple of times and then had to fork out when i bizarrely "wanted it so bad!" all of a sudden.. :SB there are many things right with the set, the 5.1 just didn't do it for me at all unfortunately ☺
It always strikes me that many fellow QQers maintain a ‘pending’ pile that they sometimes take years to get to. Me, I listen or at least sample everything as soon as I can get my hands/ears on it!

Cause one never knows if the disc is 'defective' and in need of return/refund. Has happened to me on more than one occasion, kid!

I absolutely love the music on this one - catchy melodies and great acoustic guitar interplay. It reminds me a lot of America in places.

The 4.0 mix is appropriately '70s-esque with extreme separation between front & rear, but it sounds kind of flat on my system. The front channels (containing vocals, the rhythm section, some guitar solos) generally seem kind of recessed and overpowered by the loud guitars in the rears. It could be down to the limitations of the original recording, but I wish the drums were mixed louder with more 'snap'.

Listening now at 87db. This album is so killer. I have 3 subs and I am getting a good back massage.
I appreciate this surround disc even more after getting the Empire box set that was stereo only. Orginally released 1990. A MAJOR HIT in the world of rock.
DVD-A 5.1, re-released 2002. DR's are 11's, 12's, 13. A sonic beauty.
