It's 1 AM. I'm listening to the outside world right now, in all its glory. It's very humbling.
Though I was just listening to Soul Box by Grover Washington Jr.
I found myself closing my eyes very often during the classical concert this last week and it was SO different than listening with the eyes too!!!
I am doing that very often now while listening to Surround mixes, am even practicing drums with my eyes closed...and kicking some butt at it too (trying to do side A of Signals with very limited successs but approaching the "pocket"...now I understand Neil's very serious looking rictus while playing, he was extremely concentrated)

John Williams conducting The Berliner Philharmoniker: THE BERLIN CONCERT I'm playing the PURE AUDIO BD~A. Also features 2 RBCDs and a BD~V of the complete Concert. A GREAT deal @ Deep Discount with their 10% off sale....$7 per disc [2 RBCDs/1 Pure Audio BD~A/1 BD~V concert film in a lovely informative hard book digipak enclosure!]

Megadeth - Rust in Peace
(streaming in 5.1 on Apple Music)
Cannot believe how clean, crisp and punchy this rocks. Would hardly listen to this stuff in stereo again after all those years, but give me more if you can make it sound like this in surround!

Listening now in 5.1 on Tidal via Nvidia Shield TV. I've never heard the original stereo mix of the album, only the Dave Mustaine remix. On my system, as configured, this Atmos remix is severely lacking in bass as compared to the Dave Mustaine stereo remix. Is this anyone else's experience? Is this crispy tonality more reflective of the original stereo mix? Otherwise, the mix is pretty good! Plenty of surround activity and even some discrete moments.

When I built my listening room, I did it in a way that allows me to listen in complete darkness - so much so that I even cover the LEDs on the equipment. Being able to listen in the dark with your eyes open enhances the effect you describe. I listen to stereo in sonic holography, and the effect is utterly amazing - each instrument is completely untethered from the speakers. And in surround, the phantom images between the speakers become more clear. Captain, you are on to something!

I am doing that very often now while listening to Surround mixes, ...
I have been listening to recorded music with my eyes closed for decades. I had theorized that if I 'shut off' two of my primary sensory systems (vision & touch) by sitting still and closing my eyes, then my ears (hearing) would become my primary sensory system, allowing my brain to concentrate more keenly on what I was hearing. Works for me, I hear so much more of the Music's content when I close my eyes. 🎶 I highly recommend it !

I don't close my eyes while at Concerts, or while watching/listening to Concert Videos, as the visual is part of the 'Show' 🎤
