CARLOS SANTANA/BUDDY MILES! LIVE! [SONY JAPAN/256 DSD Mastered/QUAD SACD]......Gorgeous packaging and fantastic sonics. Have not yet compared to the recent D~V QUAD SACD but to my ears ...a sonic MARVEL

Perhaps a little late in the year for the subject matter, but I only recently acquired it. Sounds great anytime of year.

It seems that Bruhns was not only a composer for organ, but was quite the violin virtuoso and skilled vocal composer. It’s a pity his life was so short. Excellent performances and recording with plenty of depth and resonance.

Listening now to the DVD of the 2018 5.1 mix, Animals.
Now have listened to the SACD, Blu Ray and DVD.
Of course it would take someone some VERY CRITICAL listening with pen and paper to actually come up with a conclusion as to which one would be the preferred.
I'm just not into it that much.
I need to rip the DVD then I can run all three back and forth and see what some key elements if any differ.
The on screen graphics of the DVD and Blu Ray are different and the DVD 5.1 comes in two versions Dolby Digital 640kbps and Dolby Digital 448kbps.
The long 5+minutes music of the start up menu is the same as the Blu Ray.
If someone was to ask me which one should they buy, I think I would say buy the LP/BD/DVD package.
1. You get two surround discs BD and DVD, (LP and CD).
2. The best of three versions, with best package, artwork, etc.

I am guessing, just based on my memory, the SACD and the DVD are pretty close, a more laid back analog sound.
The Blu Ray a touch brighter.

Thanks for the follow up Mark. So, no surprise, the DVD, of course, is lossy and the Blu Ray is lossless. The SACD, per your off the cuff recollection, sounds less bright, more analog AND is lossless. So, if you’re just looking for the best 5.1 version and don’t care about the rest of the package, then it seems like the SACD would be your go to. And, with you owning all three, you can spin the one you want to listen to in the moment.

Definitely not a party album. I just don’t think that I’d listen to this again after the first time. I don’t know, you’d certainly have to be in a particular mood for it.
I have his “Ambient I: Music For Airports,” so I knew what I was getting into. You definitely have to be in the mood for it.
