*Sounds absolutely enormous!
I'm wondering how it compares to this other SACD?

I guess that's what I'd vaguely understood, yeah--that this was another travesty on the order of the SACD release of the Bartok Concerto for Orchestra (which was released around the same time). I expect @ubertrout and/or @sjcorne might have the full story? Anyway, good on Mike for correcting it.I think @ubertrout or @humprof can offer a more informed opinion, but I believe the original Sony SACD is compromised - the multichannel mix uses the front channels of the old quad mix, so it's missing instruments including the organ. Remedying it was the reason that Mike wanted to do this one, because generally speaking he avoids redoing albums that have already had a hirez digital reissue.
Thanks for the heads-up. I've been looking--not terribly hard--for this for years, but always found it backordered at ImportCDs (for example). Wayside Music does have it in stock, though, as does Burning Shed:Gentle Giant - Octopus blu ray Steven Wilson 5.1 Remixes & Upmixes
History records this was released 50 years ago today.
The blu ray back visuals with the aquarium and comments from the band about the music always a treat.
Still in print for $20.

When I buy new media, it goes into a stack under my chair. Once I’ve played it and decided to keep it, it goes on the shelf.Hey, I own that...but have I ever opened it?? Hmmm
And to think I paid $60 for the SACD!I think @ubertrout or @humprof can offer a more informed opinion, but I believe the original Sony SACD is compromised - the multichannel mix uses the front channels of the old quad mix, so it's missing instruments including the organ. Still celebrating Christine McVie by revisiting a disc i have not played for too long:
