Boz Skaggs - Silk Degrees - SM decode

I guess strictly this should be in the fake Quad thread?

How are you finding it, EB?

Personally, Side 2 seems to do more "surround-y" stuff (with all the backing vocals panned to the rear really effectively on every track and so forth)
..but when you get an album where Side 2 comprises "Lowdown", "It's Over", "Love Me Tomorrow", "Lido Shuffle" and the finale is "We're All Alone",
anyway you play it whether (faux) Surround, Stereo or Mono, the album's a stone cold Classic and in a solid career Boz's out and out masterwork imho.

Oh! I thought it was an SQ LP! Yeah, great surround field. Lots of cool, but non-distracting use of the rears.
Now THAT's how you do tambourine folks!!!
Isn't Fauxquad the bad guy from Shrek?

Oh I don't know what the heck it is! I don't think the album ever got a Quad remix! tbh I just pulled the record off the shelf one time and ran it thru the Surround Master in SQ Vinyl decoding mode.. and that's what happened (the 2 different CDs I have, 1 an old UK Pickwick CD, the other a more recent remaster, did nothing thru the SM gizmotron, whereas the LP did all that rear speaker weirdness..!) and when I went to give the record a clean under the fluorescent light the other day I noticed the "Q" in the run out grooves and so posted about it in this forum.. whatever it is, its a hoot.. and what an album.. wow! :p

Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair. My favourite HFPA brought to you in death defying 5.1 mixed by Mr. Wilson. How aggressive is this thing? Petey's not allowed in the room for this one, I'll save his hearing while destroying my own. But what a way to do it! ;)

Now Listening to the recently acquired "Spectrum" SACD from Audio Fidelity. Good grief, I haven't even made it through the first track, and I'm already overwhelmed (in a good way). This is as discrete of an experience as any that all Quaddies dream about. Will say more and vote once I finish my listen. :)

Ooh Ryan! I'm SO super jealous!!! :p

This is when AF pull off the stuff us Surround fans' dreams are made of.. truly, who would have thought this was possible.. AF have already liberated several previously unreleased Quads from the vaults.. and with this Billy Cobham unreleased Quad and more such unreleased vintage surround mixes on the way! Wow..

Be sure to add your rating to the Spectrum Hi-Rez poll page.
The new version has a great Surround Sound mix, no doubt about it! :)

Absolutely, Brian, but I'm thinking I'll wait and vote on this one after I listen to "Thrust", which I'll have to wait and listen to in-full tomorrow, but I'm thinking as of right now that "Spectrum" will definitely get at least a '9'. :)

Paul McCartney - The Space Within Us blu ray pcm 5.1
I like the " jukebox" feature on this disc, lets you make your own playlist of any 10 songs...mix is muddy though, unfortunately.

It's funny you say that as one of my (former) professors from MTSU (Matt Foglia) was actually the re-recording mixing engineer for this concert film. He essentially was the one who mixed the music, dialogue, and FX together to create the final mix for the film, but AFAIK, he was not directly responsible for the music mixing. That was David Kahne I think.

I myself have very fond memories of that tour. I was at the Houston, TX show where he brought the Space Shuttle crew of the Discovery mission on stage with him after doing a live wake-up for them a few weeks earlier in Anaheim, CA. Unless I can make it to another Macca show before he retires (or dies) it will have been the last concert of his I will have gone to.
