Very newbie at ripping - tried with Queen Greatest Video Hits - Foobar sound indicators looks strange - but it sounds great :)

Got me a Blu Ray drive (and a 2TB SSHD and a 5TB external back up HDD) my first blu ray rip:

Used the 6 channel pcm -> flac.

Me too! Though I wish for more of Elton's 70's album to be released in surround - I am very, very happy that we got this one. It is a fantastic album! One of his best.

Well Universal DID have a golden opportunity to not only reissue those SACD-only albums as HFPA Blu-Ray discs, but they could have also finally released the 4 unreleased surround mixes for "Don't Shoot Me…", "Caribou", "Rock of the Westies", and "Blues Moves" on Blu-Ray too.
But it looks like that HFPA Blu-Ray series has now unofficially collapsed, so we continue to play the waiting game… :mad:

Wait and hope!

What about A Single Man - I love that album too - I bet Big Dipper would sound great in surround :)

AFAIK, the only Elton John albums completely mixed in surround were the 7 that got released and the four mentioned above that have not.

afaik the last 5.1 EJ Greg Penny did chronologically was "Blue Moves"... apparently he also remixed "Here & There" in surround, which with his approach to surround remixing would be very interesting to hear in 5.1 I think...

"It ain't gonna be easy from now on..."

I'm doubtful about "Here & There" because if he did remix it, why is that one not listed on his website with all of the others?

Ryan, so very true..

HFPA = Hopeless F***ing Pathetic A$$holes.

There was absolutely no need for HFPA to fail in the miserable way it did (despite occasional protestations etc there IS a market for this stuff, the label behind the incredible Yes/XTC Blu-ray Audio releases have proven as much) if HFPA had been marketed and done right from the beginning it might have had a fighting chance.. although the whole ethos of Stereo only initially and no bonus tracks or video content, MP3 downloads included, etc.. I guess the writing was on the wall, I'm amazed its limped along the way it has and we've had some genuinely cool new surround stuff thanks to it (some being the operative word.. Universal had an opportunity to release LOTS of surround music that way.. we all know how that worked out.. :rolleyes:

At least Universal made an attempt and that's more than I can say for SONY and Warners whose HIGHLY anticipated BD~A launches NEVER EVEN MATERIALIZED. Truth be told.....none of them including Universal ever took advantage of the ultra expansive real estate on a BD~A disc. Imagine the box sets we could've had on a SINGLE BD~A (I'd even settle for stereo)?

Is the UMe HFPA series officially dead? They did release Simple Minds' Once Upon a Time just three months ago. I know it was only one title, but it was better than nothing. Of course, just one title is also pretty unforgivable when there are four classic Elton John titles (and who knows what else) waiting in the vaults.

As Sam Smith recently sang at the Oscars, "The Writing's on the Wall".
Sure there might be some releases that crop up this year ("Roxy Music", "The Seeds of Love", a reissue of "New Gold Dream", etc.) but I have lost a lot of hope in this series, especially when there are still some glaring missed opportunities. For example, how about HFPA Blu-Ray releases of the "Please Don't Touch" and "Spectral Mornings" remixes from Steve Hackett, that way they can FINALLY be released in fully lossless surround sound. The mind still truly boggles at how those have been mistreated… :( :mad:

Agree with everyone's thoughts of what could have been. I have 5 ways to play blu rays at my place (well, 4 now) and only one will play SACD...I think that was the original concept for BD-A was how much penetration blu ray had made into homes in the last 8 years, and a lot of these hi res capable machines were hooked to decent audio systems. I still think that idea is viable, but if no one will produce the product... it's the chicken or the egg thing, and there are lots of chickens out there waiting to sit on some eggs. And with that last statement, I think I just broke the English language :mad:@:
