Concur!

Given the sad absence of Doobies quads, I just ordered three MFSL stereo sacd's as a stop-gap. I'll gladly re-buy when quads are released. Wishful thinking? I hope not. :sun

Excellent! :upthumb

Fwiw, I rather enjoy The Doobies' MFSL SACDs.. Takin It To The Streets SACD has a different (slightly smoother and more bass heavy maybe?) sound to it than other masterings of that album iirc.. anyway, they're all great sounding discs though.. not to take anything away from those MFSL discs but my guess is it must be kinda hard to totally screw up the sound on those records imho, very well produced/recorded/engineered albums I'd say (as a VH and Montrose fan, the combination of Ted Templeman and Donn Landee is rather special.. and when I discovered The Doobies, after loving VH so many years, it was lovely to see that dream team at the helm of this "new but old" band I only knew one or two hits of at best.. now I have pretty much everything The Doobies have ever done.. all thanks to that wonderful Captain & Me 5.1 DVD-Audio.. then through that DVD-A discovered the Doobies Quads.. oh the Quads, the Quads.. all that Doobie surround brilliance just begging for a new lease of life..! :D

And just now, Steely Dan - Gaucho. Wow! A person sort of forgets what superior sounding surround sounds like until you put this one on. Geez!!!!

EDIT - just checked the DR on the first song and it's 16! lmao.....whoa....in this case the DR matches the exquisite sound of the disc.

Steely Dan + Scheiner = Surround Heaven.

Come on fellas... let's be having more Steely Dan in Surround.. our ears crave it..!!? :p

Captain and Me DVD-A is one of my oldest ones...and it is outstanding!

Ahh.. the ol' Scheiner effect (yet again! ..no, I'm not his agent.. if I was I'd be begging him to get back in the Surround music game ASAP..! :D )

Surround Can Help Encourage Inner Nirvana Experience Realities... :smokin

(I miss Elliot S.. I said S not Elliot Ness..! ;) ..I miss Clint too, hope QQ's rocket man comes down from his space station soon..!!!)

Thanks guys! You launched me into a ferver over the Captain and Me DVD-A. Even though I have the MFSL arriving Wed's I lost my common sense and just placed a DVD-A order off discogs. Wish me luck! The price was right, about 1/2 what I've seen on eBay. :D

Fingers crossed it comes thru!
Discogs can be great, wonderful in fact.. but like any of these things, good/bad/ugly (*) in equal measures..
I've had the most amazing stuff thru Discogs sellers since I signed up just over a year ago.. but a fair few clunkers too, mostly absolutely not as described or just the wrong thing altogether! :D

GOS is bang on the money btw, outstanding is the word for that Doobies DVD-A.. the sound quality of the 5.1 presentation is the best I have ever heard that album (and I have it a few different ways now  ) and the surround mix = superlative :worthy

(* ah, there goes Clint again! Even when he's not here he's here! )

Ps. QQ Member: sbrom ..if you don't have these other Scheiner 5.1 albums already, they are must have's from a surround sound quality point of view, imho (various format options in parenthesis)..

Too bad so many of these are so hard to come by.
I've been trying to get a legit version of "Toto IV" for at least a year now, and I just can't budge given how expensive the prices usually go for it. :(

ADDENDUM: There's also ES' great surround mix of "Brand New Day" by Sting, available as a DVD-A/V or SACD, the "Give Me Strength" set from Eric Clapton which contains ES' 5.1 mix of "461 Ocean Boulevard", and some great albums ES mixed in surround for Beck. ("Sea Change" is available on DVD-A/V, Blu-Ray, and SACD, while "Guero" is available on DVD-A/V)
Plus, ES was also the one to mix the albums "In Absentia" and "Deadwing" by Porcupine Tree in surround. (Both are available on DVD-A/V)

:)

... and also the 5.1 of Layla, which is sadly still limited to the 40th Anniversary box set (dts DVD). I'd love to see it reissued on a blu-ray and/or SACD...

If only Universal would have gotten their HFPA Blu-Ray of "Layla" right the first time (by including the ES 5.1 mix on the disc) we could hear it in the best possible quality and not have to shill out lots of money for that overrated box set.

Well, yes, it is a right royal pita... :(

..but what else do we do, given the stalemate we're in, with the industry's stubborn refusal to see sense and either reissue these titles in some shape or form (including releasing them as MultiCh Downloads.. arse end of 2016 now and it still hasn't happened!!) .. so, tedious as it is, we have to be resourceful and tenacious and go hunting and track these things down (you've been here longer than I have Ryan, you'll have seen the hoops loonies like me who want/wanted pretty much everything on Surround SACD have to go through to get their kicks.. case in point though = Don't give up!! since I passed on Toto IV MCh for years and when I actually wanted one prices had already gone through the roof.. ootb I found 2 copies in quick succession (eBay UK) for less than the going rate.. its like fishing this game, you wait ages for one fishy wishy to come and then you net a prize pair! Don't despair, you will find Toto IV, you may even find two!

As for a few of the others, a glimmer of hope springeth eternal..
Gaucho comes up a fair bit in some shape or form (usually Hybrid SACD) for decent money..
the Lynyrd Skynyrd is still available in either form..
Eagles & Nightfly available on Japanese Warner SACDs (as you all know ;) )..
and the Aaron Neville comes up quite a bit (an underrated surround title imho.. expect to pay about £20 for the SACD or DVD-A, which seems pretty reasonable
to me at this point with this OOP surround stuff).

America/Homecoming & Grover W Jr's Winelight easier to get now thanks to AF's Surround SACD reissues.. I had hoped AF might consider redoing some other excellent out of print 5.1 titles (Toto IV would definitely be a good one and an easy seller for them, no? ..seems strange AF didn't do it already, as there has been no other SACD or audiophile type remastering since the old Sony SACDs, has there, afaik?)

Hmm.. HFPA fiasco, indeed.. seems like that little failed experiment is pretty much on its last legs, sadly :(

Gotta say however, unabashed lover of all things Scheiner I may be but it pains me to say I find aspects of his 461 OB & Layla 5.1's not totally convincing.. and actually prefer some of Mick Guzauski's mixing on the much more obtainable (though still out of print!) SACDs of those two titles (461 OB especially, the SACD with Guzauski's 5.1's is great.. Layla more a mixed bag pour moi  ).

Ps. Good call on the Beck 5.1's Scheiner did, Ryan.. totally forgot about those for no reason other than I'm clearly going slightly    'sssssss....! :D

Although I have NOT had the privilege of experiencing Scheiner's Layla remix firsthand, I find NO fault whatsoever with Guzauski's 5.1 Lalya remix on SACD. Played rather loudly on MY system, it REALLY delivers!

...well.. for me both 5.1 Layla's have their moments.. some are shining Scheiner moments, some are magical Mick moments..
I'll give em both a spin in the next few wee days and see which track off which is personally preferred and get rrrrright back to you on me Layla Multichannel mash up!

Goodnight Ralphie pie, Goodnight all you lovelies at QQ :smokin

Pere Ubu: The Modern Dance

Just got this today and it's a great big wonderful surprise. I've played it 5 times in a row and every-time feels like the first time. Infectious bass, drums and guitar. I love it!
