I've had the DM Ultra CD+DVD for over a year but gave up on listening to it because the Oppo 93 gives me a wrong region code message and refuses to play it. Tried it on the old Oppo 970hd and sure enough it plays! Its the euro version and the DVD is PAL so I think that's the problem.

There's a free and easy method to make your Oppo 93 region free for the DVD player. I've done that to mine so long ago, but Google is your friend.

I've seen those gadgets too but was always concerned that they'd open me up to bots, trojans, viruses, zombies, the NSA and death stars.

SW Drive Home, powerful and a bit disturbing: Screen shot 2015-05-23 at 7.23.24 PM.jpg Love the live Insurgentes. And if you are looking for a serious progressive rock fix go straight to The Birthday Party.

Avalon is easily in my all-time favorite top 10 surround mixes. Hopefully we'll see a complete series of Roxy reissues and this one can be found at reasonable prices again.

It might take some time, but I think with Universal's HFPA series, this one will see the light of day again at some point. (Along with "Boys & Girls" too!)

Opeth - Watershed - DVD - Pity that the Cookie Monster hadn't retired and the mix isn't great but otherwise I really like this album.

I miss the amazing growled vocals. This one is another Jens Bogren job; thoroughly mediocre, like all his stuff.

I was thinking of buying that one, does it sound good?

I must admit that I am very fond of R&B/Soul music, especially from this era. So, I don't want my enthusiasm for this music to build up your expectations too much.

Being a vintage Quad recording and one that originally might not have been one of the better Quad mixes, I feel AF has done a wonderful job with the SQ and with tweaking the discrete Quad mix. The vocals are separated nicely between the front and rear channels. Brass, keyboards and other instruments also a play a discrete role in the surround channels.

On first listening, some vocals & instruments in the rears sounded a little bright and thin. So, it's not a "perfect 10" in the strictest sense. One has to remember the age of this recording. However, as my ears get acquainted with this recording, everything seems to fall into place very well. And so, I'm appreciating this release more and more with each listening.

In short... If you like 70s R&B/Soul music, you'll love Nightbirds. These ladies can really sing!

The Multichannel SACD of Streetlife Serenade by Billy Joel. Featuring "The Entertainer", one of his lesser known albums but nice to have in 4 Channel Surround once again after an absence of many years.
