Listening to the new Djabe Flow album right now on DVD-A.
As always Tamás Barabás did a great surround mix, it's a pure discrete pleasure! The bass guitar sound freaking awesome and the whole band musicianship is a top notch! I like the music a lot and for me this is definitly one of the best multi-channel release of the year. Bravo!!!

Honky Château - EJ (SACD)

not played this one for a "long, long time"... man... i'd forgotten just how great some of these Elton surround mixes are.. its like putting on a comfy old pair of slippers that fit so beautiful and snug, they make you wonder why you live life in yer flip flops!

"its gonna take a lot of salvation!
what we need are willing hands..
you must feel the sweat in your eyes..
you must understand.. Salvation!"

This SACD is what got me into surround music. Amazon had it for a crazy price quite a few years ago and I thought why not. What's this SACD I wondered? A better sound maybe. I had no idea... So I played it thru my sons PS2 and whoa..Whats goin on here? To cut a long story short ..here I am today ..One bat cave, one highly expensive Marantz AVR , a 5.1.4 speaker system and almost music utopia. Coupled with an ever growing library of Surround music ..who would have guessed that I'm totally engrossed with my new found interest from that one Elton John SACD...which is brilliant by the way.

Just checked order details..19/11/2011 for £3.99!! A bit more now...

And finally...I'm reading Greg Penny was nominated for the surround production in 2006.

The E.J. discs were always my first recommendation for anyone new to the surround hobby...they "were" inexpensive too(y)

Introducing The Eleventh House With Larry Coryell (SQ LP decoded by Surround Master)

another one i'd not played for too long, a wonderful ol' Quad I'd dearly love to see DV reissue someday.. some fab jazz fusion played by some of the coolest cats in town (the late Coryell of course and the also now sadly departed Alphonse Mouzon, with Mike Mandel, Randy Brecker, Danny Trifan..) a fun surround mix that has all sorts of bits and bobs, synthy stuff, horn toots, bongo bongs and cymbal crashes going off in all corners of the room all at once.. nice! :51QQ

AWB - Average White Band (CD-4)

Early DSD 256 Stereo & DSD 256 Multichannel Release!

Bach Harpsichord Concertos 1, 2, 3 (BWV 1052-1054) is the debut solo album from harpsichord player Marcin Swiatkiewicz on Channel Classics Records. The ensemble on this recording includes Marcin Swiatkiewicz, harpsichord, Zefira Valova, violin, Anna Nowak-Pokrzywinska, violin, Dymitr Olszewski, viola and Tomasz Pokrzywinski, cello. It will be officially released on September 7, 2018.

But the thought of the harpsichord music of Bach in DSD 256, well, it's just too good to keep our listeners waiting for another three weeks. So you will find it today at the Native DSD Music store in Stereo and Multichannel DSD 256 as well as DSD 128, DSD 64 and DXD. (This is a DSD Exclusive, Not on SACD release).

Marcin tells us "Musical works of genius are sometimes approached as museum exhibits, and the controversies concerning interpretative freedom can even be more fierce than Scheibe’s famous polemic with Bach’s advocate Birnbaum. Full of respect for the Composer’s artistic ideas as I am, I try to understand his music in the context of a time when improvisation was universally practiced.

The wealth, complexity and refinement of the notation make this task more difficult, but important clues are provided by the study of versions that usually differ in these very aspects, namely – texture and ornamentation. I made up my mind to look for my own embellishments, especially in those sections that are repeated da capo, but also in the brief cadenzas. My partners in this project adopted a similar stance. We believe that this approach is closer to the Composer’s own intention than a literal reading of the score. It provides for a fuller understanding of the music and for a greater freedom of expression."

The music of Marcin Swiatkiewicz on the harpsichord and organ can be found on the earlier Channel Classics album Perla Barocca: Early Italian Masterpieces with violinist Rachel Podger and Daniele Caminiti on the Theorbo. Also worth checking out while you are at the NativeDSD Music store.
