Alice Cooper - Welcome to my Nightmare (DVD-A)

Hey Lute, your avatar finally breached the old gray matter over here. Do you know of any current-format recordings of Missing Persons in 5.1? They're one of my favorite 80s bands. I looked around a little, but didn't find anything. Plus, that's one band name that's kinda hard to Google. :(

Saga- Worlds Apart Revisited.jpg

A solid live performance of the album from beginning to end, plus lots other favorites. Not much going on in the surrounds, but good music on the stage!

Hey Jm!

Silverline released a couple of Missing Persons' songs on DVD-A. "Women On Top" has a good mix of "Words". I don't know how you feel about Silverline. But... As you're probably already aware of, Silverline's DVD-As are kinda hit n' miss and this one is no exception. Some of the other songs on this one are mixed loud with heavy bass. Blondie is flat...something's wrong with the mix. Tina Turner is way too loud. However, I like the songs, so I can live with it. I also like the Pat Benatar, Kim Carnes, and Wilson Phillips. So, it's not too bad.

Silverline's DVD-A "Inside the Music - New Wave" also has classics, including Missing Persons' "Destination Unknown". But this song's surround mix is less successful. Some other songs are OK, though. General Public's "Tenderness" is a highlight for me... http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/movie/pid/1888685/a/inside+the+music+-+new+wave.htm

Hope this helps.

Btw, 3 SHM-CDs of Missing Persons' 3 albums with bonus tracks were released last month. But I am not sure if the new "remastering" justifies the price tag... http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/UICY-77293

I got Women On Top for 4 bucks! (Hee!)

Thanks man!

My wife gets really irritated with my rig... the parts are all mismatched, she hates the way it looks, and she gets annoyed with the way it's always sticking out when she comes into the room; but she's learned to live with it and she does get some enjoyment from it on occasion.

I got no one to share my rig with these days. A shame too - it's really quite nice... (y)

Man, talk about your Warehouse of Double-Entendre! This one reminds me of the final scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark!

Many good mixes on Women on Top. Much of what was released in the various Inside the Music series is both good music and good mixes. It belies the usual "stillborn" rear channels of Silverline 5.1's.

As to Avalon, either it or Flesh & Blood are my favorite Roxy albums. I eagerly awaited Avalon's 5.1 release, and it didn't disappoint. I had a 2ch LP, Japan LP and German CD of it. The SACD is tops.

Birds of Fire appeared at my door yesterday. From its' release on 2 ch LP and beyond, it is one of my 20 favorite albums. High praise in a collection of over 20,000 titles. A few months later, when the SQ/Q8 appeared, the mix didn't disappoint. The SQ LP was a packaging disappointment, since the 2ch LP had a textured cover. Small complaint. I've owned this on 2ch LP, SQ, Q8, CD and remastered CD in the Mahavishnu box from a couple years ago. The majority of my listening was on Q8. The 4.0 SACD is certainly THE BEST WAY to listen to this gem. It's typical of the jazz-fusion I was most into in the early-mid 70's. YOU NEED THIS SACD!

Funny you should mention it - I ordered that one along with Women On Top! :) I've always been a Jazz Fusion fan too; even managed to see Return to Forever live once, back in the day. Absolute monsters, those guys.

How's that one sound Lute? Always wondered...

I like it. Decent Metal jams. There's not much Hard Rock/Heavy Metal in surround (or for that matter even audiophile quality stereo), so I am glad I took a chance. But truth be told, the surround mix isn't very discrete. The rear channels usually mirror the front guitars, vocals, etc... Occasionally, there are discrete elements added to the surrounds. The overall soundstage is good, but not very distinctive or clear. The mix could have been helped by separating the musicians in the surrounds more. For example, I can barely hear the keyboards in most songs, or the bells in "Rise". Some wild panning of the guitars or drums would also be fun with this type of music.

Anyway, if you like Metal and can find this one at a cheap price, I'd say go for it.
It's good for gettin' the lead out. :upthumb

I have been working on this disc for weeks. I always rip my DVD Audios upon arrival, play them and make any adjustments needed via Audacity. This Disturbed title has far too much low end across the front speakers. The rears do actually have discrete guitars and some background vocals but this could of been much better. Some great tracks on here and I would say it is worth listening to for yourself, maybe turn down the bass.
