Bought this one on vinyl back in the day, mainly because I liked the (very kitschy) artwork so much. Here in Germany it was called "The Ravel Album", and it put Ravel (besides "Bolero") on my map. I always loved the music on this disc and would've never dreamed about getting it in pristine soundqualita and a pretty good quad-mix.

Haven't been listening to anything, surround or otherwise because I've been away. But you folks are always on my mind...

A stack of music arrived today:

First off: The Very Best of Mungo Jerry.....yep Silverline..:censored:

I had read the remarks about this one which were not very complimentary.
But it was a group I liked from their first hit in 1970..and as I still have most of their early singles, so I thought why not.

So from a nostalgic point of view, it brings back lots of happy memories.

Not the best mix in the world but not as awful as I was fearing.

How'd you rate it?
It's a very laid back production. But not in a bad way. Good placement of instruments and nice songs. For a first listen it's great and it's live!! Which is surprising as you wouldn't know it apart from the applause. Dietrich knows his stuff when it comes to surround music production.
And a very nice chap to do business with too.
If a poll I would give this a 9..as I would the previous two!!

Cheers Adam, didn't even think it would be listed for a rating. Never assume eh!! :)(y)

anytime ;)

Jon did a fair bit to shine a light on the label, there's Polls for a number of their releases and they have their own area of the forum. that said, you can only lead us Quaddies to Oppo food, you can't make us buy the stuff, no matter how good it is!

more seriously, i bought some of their discs and enjoyed what i heard but really on reflection i was deluged with so much new surround stuff coming in back then, i maybe didn't give the discs the time and attention they deserved at the time, which i do regret. anyhoo, i'll revisit them over the Summer with fresh lugholes :phones

Mike, is Jamie Cullum still big in the UK? I have this album on dualdisc [MLP DVD~A 5.1, thankfully and not DD 5.1] and I've always liked his 'hyperkinetic' approach to musical interpretations. An 'exhaustive' listen.
He is Ralph, has is own weekly jazz show on BBC Radio 2 since 2010, as well as touring.
I like his version of Jimi's 'Wind Cries Mary'
