I have the previous one and will try to answer this question. After first listen, I thought the ATMOS was missing the lower bass response from Chris Squire--which you hear perfectly on the 5.1 mix. Also, be careful jumping around with audio choices because some are louder than others.

@Malhomme, I've just finished listening to Steven Wilson's 2013 5.1 mix and compared it to his 2025 5.1 mix. To answer your question, Steven Wilson was given the opportunity to make improvements on the 2025 5.1 mix. IMHO, these are subtle differences that make the new mix more enjoyable. I listened to the 2013 5.1 mix of Close to the Edge. To my ears, in the opening, Steve Howe's guitar work (up front) sounds a little bright. On the 2025 5.1 mix of Close to the Edge, the brightness of Steve Howe's guitar work is gone and, to me, sounds more pleasant. Also, Chris Squire's bass has more presence--which I enjoy very much. Hope that helps.

Yes! If you have the volume set for what you normally would for Atmos, and play the stereo instrumentals.....boy howdy! I mean it won't blow your speakers out but it's a bit of a jolt.

It is my opinion that anyone critically evaluating a surround mix of a progressive rock band with a drummer should be aware of what they might be missing by not being conscious of keeping the volume at or above the high 70s to mid 80s range.

Secondly, that that the recommended C-weighted calibration scale is sensitive to the amount of LFE content in the source & the subwoofer volume relative to the mains from one person's room to another, resulting in variation in what each individual perceives as optimum dB indication.

I saw the The Brutalist film recently in a well-equipped Atmos theater, it was so loud I removed my hearing aids when the overture started.
However, like many modern films, the "dynamic range" we are aware of in DR numbers was sufficiently high that dialog and diegetic background sounds were clear & moderate in volume.

I had no dB meter with me, but at times the fortissimo orchestral swells had such powerful LFE energy that the paper popcorn sack I held was buzzing.

Like you, I turned my volume up (76db). I am also impressed with Rick Wakeman's keyboard skills.
