You raise a good point.
The 2009 CD version says remastered. So quad encoding should be intact.
But now I have discovered a stereo only ABC label for the record which means there was stereo and separate Quad releases. Color me confused.
I have this on vinyl as quad compatible. But who knows which master went to the later CD issue.
The only way to find out is to buy the CD and play it.

That is my understanding, yes, just showing titles for basic reference purposes there. But usually I try and find first CD label issues, as I have run across some, that with later re-issues (maybe different mastering/labels) have messed up the encoding. Have you had any experience with that?

Here's one where I believe that may have happened (or it's just a crappy mix to begin with)...

Yowch !😖
still with us @dr8track ???

I would really like to see this thread get going again and refined with an expansion of your original list here.

Here's three more I don't believe all have been mentioned (I recently decoded these with my SMv2 in QS -Involve 4.0) mode

For that olde listing .....I would NOT include Lucifers Friend , and Nektar -A Tab In The Ocean (SQ?)

but there are many missing such as all the SQ Cosmic Couriers .

So Pupster just to confirm you have the 1989 CD edition of Chapter One which you say does decode into QS? The other Gato albums you list are later CD issues which of course makes me wonder if the same is true for all chapter one CD issues.

I have no idea about the others, but I just picked the first CD release I was aware of from the Impulse! label -and went from there.
Always happy (can't you see my tail wagging?) to have confirmation from others :)

Ok Pupster hold your tail for a minute
I did more research and the 2009 CD reissue of Chapter One has a SPARS code of ADD. Meaning it was digitally remixed. So I would guess even if the quad encoded master was sent it is screwed up now. So based on your experience only the 1989 cd Spars Code AAD is quad encoded.

You may want to check the SPARS code on your other two Gato CDs and see what they say. If its ADD and they decode in QS than I dont know what to think ....

I'm not finding a SPARS code on Two or Three anywhere; and do we know for a fact what all was done during ADD?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPARS_code"As digital tape recorders only became widely available in the late 1970s, almost all recordings prior to this date that appear on CD will be AAD or ADD, having been digitally remastered. This means that the original analog master tape has been converted (transcribed) to digital. It does not always imply that there has been any additional editing or mixing, although this may have taken place."

Remastering can include changing the stereo spread of the original. This can alter any matrix encoding.

Just decoded this 2002 Japan CD of: The Taj-Mahal Travellers ; used SMv2 in 4.0 SQ mode and it appears to be fully intact encode IMO. Some very spacy, surroundy effects on this one.

I took the same 2002 CD and decoded it using Audobe Audition and an SQ decoding script. I then compared it to the romanotrax DVD-A I have
and they are nearly identical. It is definitely an SQ encoded CD.

The following is a listing of modern day recordings of material that was originally released with matrix quadraphonic encoding. Please submit any titles currently available with encoding intact. If at all possible, include the following info with your submission;

Artist
Title of Release
Catalog Number
Type of Encoding; SQ, QS, etc.

THE LIST

Barclay James Harvest- Once Again (SQ) EMI/Brimstone records BRIM002
Available on their official web site: Barclay James Harvest
Ordered from the band's site. For $18 shipped I'm happy to directly support the band...

Anyone have this Japanese CD from 1996 and know if it still retains its QS encoding?
(I have the LP put still need to decode/convert it.)

I don't have this, but it should most definitely be QS-encoded, as it was single inventory and the other Pro Use CD reissues have all maintained the original QS encoding.

Nice catch in finding this one, by the way - I've added the CD reissue info and discogs link to the list in the first post of my Toshiba-EMI thread.

Grateful Dead-Steal Your Face (QS)

Any particular version?
I would ask @Mark Anderson about that one, I’m thinking probably a big NO!
I don’t own it though, so just my feelings that maybe some were heavily environmentally influenced at the time or otherwise altered in state for what was really heard :smokin

Reading reviews of the album, it seems it was poorly recorded... :(
