Seeking conformation for these EMI SQ CDs?
* I have a Spanish LP conversion but I need to clean it up with some RX-8; overall very different sounding (& showing its age musically) but not bad surround IMO.

Not sure if this has been Shared here about EMI Unmarked Quad Recordings. Here is the source and below is cut and pasted from the link. Quadraphonic Discography "Rumors" - EMI's Unmarked Quad Recordings Reason I am posting this is because I find the EMI Classical CDs that I have from this period sound exactly the same as the Quad albums I own of the same recordings when played in Quad SQ.

The following is my opinion only and in no way intended to harm the
image of EMI, who in a decade 1970/79 gave us some of the finest
classical recordings ever made!

The early 1970's saw EMI with new state of the art quadraphonic
recording equipment. Many of these early quad recording sessions were
probably insisted upon by the great conductor, Herbert Von Karajan,
who was reported as being very enthusiastic about the new surround
sound medium. Karajan's quad recording session lasted from at least
1970-1978. Some confusion exists over the early classical EMI
quadraphonic releases. Some released, as Stereo discs are definitely
quad releases, even though the cover says stereo and the matrix number
stamped on the vinyl also has a Stereo prefix!

Early Quad releases marked as Stereo include -

1. The Great Mozart Symphonies 35/41 (now on DTS)
2. Tristan Und Isolde -complete (Wagner)
3. Der Meistersinger Von Nurembourg -complete (Wagner)
4. Fidelio -complete (Beethoven)
5. All with Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic.

Evidence for the above being Quad is -

1. The historical record, with references in Emi's own literature to
these being Quadraphonic-recording sessions.
2. Karajan's enthusiasm for the new Quad medium.
3. Listening tests, using a Tate decoder where the original hall
acoustics are clearly defined in surround!
4. The physical groove structure is very dynamic, indicating the
presence of the helical groove structure necessary for the SQ matrix.

Some earlier releases did have a Stereo and a Quad release, for instance
Sir Adrian Boult conducts Richard Wagner vol. 1 & 2. The stereo version
clearly having a finer groove structure than the very dynamic quad
release grooves.

I believe from 1973 onwards all EMI classical releases were Quad,
however the rear channel information may have been reduced to appease
the Stereo purists. Remember on a Stereo system, a Quad record is not
stereo but Lt and Rt. The early quad release did have too much ambience
when played on a stereo system, when not first decoded through an SQ
matrix, to remove the rear channel information (compatible Quad).

Most EMI classical Quad were surround ambience, however a few were
discrete surround with instruments placed around the listener. ie.
UK. Recordings made for US Columbia such as Stravinsky - The Rite of
Spring/London Symphony orchestra, circle surround 25 years ago!
EMI Australia pressed many wonderful SQ records from UK masters on the
EMI label and The World Record Club labels. As time went by, and with
the confusion of competing Quad systems, the word Quad disappeared from
record covers, but a quick check of the vinyl stamper number will reveal
a Quad master!

It was once reported that the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab SACD was QS encoded, so I bought it. Sadly it's stereo only. The QS encoded LP is my favourite of all the QS encodes!
When I checked it, as you pointed out, it turned out that most of it was a stereo mix. However, only Stanislaw Skrowaczewski's Bolero_La Valse (UDSACD 4002) and Daphnis et Chloe (UDSACD 4008) have stereo tracks like QS-encoded sound sources .... (Similarly, a female chorus was localized behind)

Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring/London Symphony is available as an SACD hybrid multichannel
through Dutton Vocalian. Amazing recording. Apparently Dutton remixed the quad version
from the original multitracks.

I decided I had to listen to some Procol Harum in memory of Gary Brooker (I saw them a few times in the late 1990s & the 2000s at festivals, still excellent), so I decided on this live one, it does decode very well in SQ, way more than just ambience/audience, yet SQ isn't mentioned anywhere in the liner notes. I got this ages back thanks to Derek's recommendation. How did you discover it?

It's in one of the Quad lists we have available here. I have one on the way too.
I plan to spin PH

In Concert With The Danish National Concert Orchestra & Choir
'cause @Elad gave it to me!
No encoding, but my stereo system fills this room magically anyhow.

Circle Surround, supposedly compatible with SQ quad.

Since I was recording the Circle Surround II broadcast on Tokyo FM on February 8, 2004, when I confirmed it, it seems that it is almost the QS method of Sansui, not the SQ method of CBS-Sony.

I have several Circle Surround CDs and built in AVR decoder in my Marantz, it doesn't seem much more impressive than your typical Dolby Surround - DPL II stuff; with maybe less front center attitude (just kind of an immersive mess like some Ambisonic stuff:unsure:) I've even tried some up-mixes through Penteo and the SMv2 in Involve mode, and it's OK but no great shakes IMO.

Actually by shear luck and a bit of good quad sleuthing , plus I Remembered the dates and that picture of which someone on QQ posted,a long time ago.

FWIW in North America and possibly Europe "Windsong Records" had plenty of BBC BROADCAST/TRANSCRIPTION type CD'S for sale. Unfortunately none were indicated as quad encoded.
And of course some were SQ encoded just unmarked . I believe The Robin Trower live at the BBC ,which I used to have is from an SQ transmission.

My latest quad cd.

Even though I already own this cd.....

Larry Fast's Synergy....picked this up at a used record store ,because I couldn't pass up this excellent QS CD.

Found a nice copy on discogs for $9, thanks for the heads up.
Happy to report the streaming services seem to be using the same matrix encode, for folks who already own enough used CDs.🎠 🤠
