Thanks Mark. It’s a bug which I thought I’d fixed yesterday… (although yesterday I was recovering after my wife’s birthday party the night before, needless to say much alcohol and surround music involved)

MMH 9 is getting two notification branches. Official release and Beta release.

If you install an official release you won’t get notified of new beta releases, unless you opt in to beta notifications (MMH 9 preferences).

If you install a beta release you auto opt in for future beta release notification (and can opt out in preferences)

That way users interested in helping me test changes can join beta testing or otherwise just use the official releases.

The next couple of MMH 9 updates will be:
  • Complete the Atmos Helper Decoder rework (adds the new queueing system for concurrent decoding)
  • Add support for tagging Matroska MKV and MKA to ‘Tag and Rename’ tool (only the Chapter Editor supports this now)
The Extract Audio from MKV/MKA tool might get a revamp too (the ‘Open MKV’ command won’t split/extract immediately, it would load the chapters into the grid and allow tagging/chapter renaming before the split/extract process, more like how the Chapter Editor tool works). I’d also implement concurrent split/conversion for faster operation. Maybe this will get done in MMH 9.1.

Glad you had a good time. I’m good with the Beta.

I've got a strange one---I've got an MKV that can't extract readable audio Atmos file. Playback in VLC or Foobar says "can't read mlpa file". I've tried m4a, mka, mp4 and all give same error. But when I play original MKV in VLC it plays fine, and VLC says audio is truhd Atmos. Used MakeMKV to convert original .iso. Any ideas?

I would stick with mkv for VLC, it does not like some container formats, in my experience.

I think I figured it out. MMH doesn't overwrite old MMH versions; I had versions back to MMH 6, which contained ffmpeg.exe. Foobar pointed to that, which I had deleted yesterday. Foobar now plays mlpa/truehd. Funny thing is VLC won't...

Well when you use Foobar, ffmpeg transcodes to wav/flac whatever, since Foobar will not bitstream. If that's good enough, then good enough.
In other words it's not going to light up the "Atmos" indicator on your AVR as it's converted to channel format and not bed/objects with the Atmos encoding intact.

Using the Audio Tools - Join or Split Audio feature:
It leads to an error (could not write - which is true and logical) if the TITLE tag contains characters like / or \ (in mp3tag it is the 'Album' tag).
Idea: to replace those characters with a - .

What do you think? At the moment, I change those albums tags using mp3tagger.

I will make that change today Mike. MMH will auto remove illegal file name characters if found. It should be doing so now. It’s a bug.

'AC/DC Greatest Hits' would do it
That isn't a title. I would imagine it is a 1 in a great number issue UNLESS something strange happened to the tagging process.
edit...
I can see it happening on a semi regular basis for Artist tags because I have seen "//" used to separate multiple Artists on a single track.
