Rhino Quadios - Batch 7 - Speculation

Passing on Billy Cobham's Spectrum (if confirmed) is rather strange as it's a classic of jazz fusion, and the quad mix from the previous MC SACD release is great, but it's been OOP and the cheapest on Discogs is US$174.

I'm fairly sure that Audio Fidelity only pressed 2,000 copies of Spectrum. Add in the fact that it was a "previously unissued" quad mix when AF got approval for release, and it was bound to be somewhat more in demand. It always sells well when it get a reissue on whatever new format it arrives on.

No need to put down Atmos just because you don’t feel like springing for two speakers or whatever faulty logic you're using, buddy. More Atmos, please, Rhino—like The Sinners, which contains "It's a Shame." I'm considering Aretha (completely paranoid about concert audio’s lack of immersion) and triple-dipping on Spectrum here.

Have you read up on anything re: the Fillmore West quad mix yet?

Not gonna lie, I'm impatient as hell waiting for these to be listed for sale. For Chrissake. I'm gonna order them, so let's just get this show on the road.

I suspect that Thurs Feb. 6th at 9:00PM Pacific the show will be on the road. Just a hunch here.

I'm not putting it down (at least the disc version because I'm definitely putting down the anemic streaming version!)...Im just stating that it's nice that there is still "surround" material being released that doesn't require it. I'm personally still locked into a 5.1 system for the foreseeable future due to the use of very nice analog equipment I don't want to give up due to its superb sound quality--and the very fact it will take very expensive digital equipment to match it (see attached). So it's a perfect setup for this quad material thankfully continually being released by Rhino & others. That's all..

Oh and I agree... At least what I heard on Q, Aretha Live did not have the most spectacular sound quality I've heard. On the other hand Curtis Mayfield sounded rather great. So we'll soon see...

I own the AF 4.0 and it is wonderful, super highly recommend. One of the best.
Assuming Spectrum gets released in this Quadio Blu Ray batch I am going to order as I feel the Blu Ray will out shine the SACD.

I did purchase the Toulouse Street Doobies single Quadio Blu Ray wondering if it would sound different than the Doobies Quadio Box and the numbers where exactly the same and the sound was exactly the same. That was Blu Ray to Blu Ray.

The spine of the newly arriving Quadio has a black border, and a lavender text. The front cover of Spectrum has square specks, and some of them are in lavender, a perfect match. All new titles are in celebration of Black History Month. Dionne Warwick has an album with lavender text on cover, but the background is cream color, not black.

The Spectrum album as mixed in 1970's quadraphonic remained unissued until Audio Fidelity was able to release it (2016) in their 4.0 series on SACD. Evidence points to only 2,000 copies made. As a top fusion album with an internationally known cast of musicians, this would be considered a very small run. The 4.0 SACD would sell out faster than any other AF multichannel release, yet AF never ran additional pressings of Spectrum. Then prices have steadily gone up to the point of being unaffordable for the average surround listener.
The Rhino team knows this. So um yeah, looks like a slam dunk right out of the gate.
