• A NEW OFFICIAL REMASTERED AND EXPANDED 5CD/BLU-RAY EDITION OF NEKTAR’S CLASSIC DEBUT ALBUM.

• FEATURING A NEW REMASTER OF THE ORIGINAL 1971 STEREO MIX ALONG WITH NEW 5.1 SURROUND SOUND & STEREO MIXES BY BEN WISEMAN.

• ALSO INCLUDES ‘THE BOSTON TAPES’ – THE UNRELEASED ALBUM RECORDED IN 1970 AND A COMPLETE OFFICIAL BOOTLEG CONCERT RECORDING MADE IN DARMSTADT, GERMANY IN NOVEMBER 1971.

• PLUS A BLU-RAY DISC FEATURES HIGH RESOLUTION 5.1 & STEREO MIXES OF THE ALBUM ALONG WITH BONUS VIDEO CONTENT OF THE 1971 PROMOTIONAL FILM GOOD DAY.

• ALL TRACKS NEWLY REMASTERED AND MIXED FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES.

• INCLUDES AN ILLUSTRATED BOOK WITH PREVIOUSLY UNSEEN PHOTOGRAPHS AND NEW ESSAY.

Originally released in November 1971, the album was the first release by the band and featured a continuous piece of music divided into 13 tracks. This impressive conceptual science fiction inspired work, which was interpreted as a commentary on the nuclear arms race, was the band’s first album release and originally appeared in Germany, the country where the British band were formed and were based, enjoying commercial success and building Nektar’s loyal following.

This new boxed set edition features a completely new remaster of the original stereo album mix (from the original master tapes), both tracks from the ‘Do You Believe in Magic’ single issued in April 1972, along with new 5.1 Surround Sound and Stereo mixes by Ben Wiseman and a new remaster of ‘The Boston Tapes’ – the recordings made by the band in the USA in 1970 for an abortive album prior to them signing to Bellaphon Records in Germany in 1971. Also included is the complete “official bootleg” recording of a concert in Darmstadt, Germany in November 1971 presented on two CDs. Finally, the set features a region free Blu-ray disc with the new 5.1 & Stereo remixes of the album, along with bonus video footage of the promotional film ‘Good Day’ made in 1971 previously unreleased in full.

I had just read the "prior thread," no doubt trending. Cool. Isn't 5.1 sounding a bit, um, quaint now? Give us Atmos! But I understand if it is not feasible. Expect a few moans over a big box set. Standalone Atmos?

I don't think I've heard a single mastering from Ben Wiseman that I've liked.

I doubt I'll bother with the stereo album on here, and any bonus tracks will just get played in the car anyway. Hopefully the 5.1 mix is decent.

He's mainly a mastering engineer, and the go-to for Esoteric. As mentioned, he has also been commissioned by the same to complete new stereo and 5.1 mixes (or upmixes).
OK, so are we thinking there's a chance these may be 5.1 upmixes?

... Actually, probably not, as the blurb says 'MIXED FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES'.

Hmmm. What do we all know about Ben Wiseman?
EDIT - I see he did Remember The Future multi-channel mix.
I’ve enjoyed most of Ben’s remasters and I liked his Remember The Future remix. I have the original SACD but will take a chance on him bettering that effort.
