This is not the newest of news, but I just heard about it yesterday through this video from Cold Fusion on YouTube:



This would make the humble optical disc the new data density king at 1.6 petabits—that's 200 terabytes—on just one disc. As discussed in the video, this technology is still in the research phase and is not yet commercially viable. Will we eventually see 200-terabyte prerecorded media? Maybe, but this tech is more likely to be used in data centers and for archival storage at the enterprise and industrial levels. Still, this is an exciting development in the world of "obsolescent" media. You can read more about it here.
