I don't have an Atmos system, but a 5.1 system - and listening to the Atmos mix of Vitalogy - I am impressed. It is a much more immersive mix than Dark Matter, which I thought was ok. The Vitalogy mix is more discreet with a lot of different things coming from all main speakers (remember I only have a 5.1). Glad I got this one, as I was a bit worried that it could be overly compressed like Dark Matter and not as discrete as I would hope.

Just now put it on in Dolby Atmos. Definitely makes for a new listen! A Zappa-like opening then it rocks.
Will post more in poll later (if I can find it, lol). [edit: the voice separations are something else! At my computer I'm sitting at a 90 degree angle to my fronts and rears and it seems solid stereo between them, with voices coming from any position in the room. I think I'll like this :)]

Mine has not shipped yet. Reading that Ten Club already close now for the holiday break, I will not expect mine will be shipped until January 2025

From Ten Club? Meanwhile, still waiting for it to be sent to me a mere few hours south of H.Q. in Seattle... 👀

Lol... yes it was from the Ten Club.

This never happens to me so please don't take that lol to heart.

Actually, I'm waiting on a box set by the Go Betweens right now... and they are from my town... and everyone else has that first!

*shakes fist at sky*

For me, this is not reference material, it sounds kind of "muffled", not a lot of clarity, also not a very adventurous mix.......anyway, better than nothing, some songs are better mixed than others, but none of them were jaw dropping for me.........more space and more soundstage, but something is lacking (at least for me)

Can't find much to fault, will give a bit more detailed 5.1 review when the poll is created. Strong 8, maybe 9. Atmos mileage may vary, but sounds good in 5.1. Big improvement in the atmos folddown compared to Dark Matter, which sounds like dark matter on my 5.1 setup.

I think there's a couple very minor Easter eggs in the mix, things extended or revealed in the surround mix. I also forget how awesome Immortailty is.

No sign of mine yet - ordered on the 13th Dec, haven't even been sent a tracking link :(

Gutted I almost certainly won't have it before Xmas period, was really looking forward to this one.....

I personally think that there is some momentum building for physical Atmos releases. Clearly the demand exists, and artists/labels understand that sales will be modest yet still worthwhile. SDE’s successful program is partly responsible. Rhino’s too.

Also the economics. How many times must an artist’s Spatial Audio be streamed to match the revenue created by the sales of a physical release? Plus these mixes are being made primarily for streaming, so a physical release incurs little additional expense.
I predicted long ago that eventually sales of physical product would get so low that suddenly our little niche would be worthwhile to the labels. For years labels like Rhino scoffed at the idea of dusting off old quad mixes just to sell a few thousand copies. Now? Those are probably some of the best sellers in their catalog.

Along similar lines, I've been saying for a while that if a profit can be made the labels will seize on the opportunity, even if it's not much it's something and multiply that across several dozen releases each year they would be foolish to leave that money on the table. Hopefully they're learning burying surround mixes could burn them with overstock as people shy away from a bloated price tag. It's about finding a balance that appeals to the gamut of fans/music buyers.

We're likely to see more standalone surround releases as those prior boxed sets collect dust in warehouses, eating into their margin on the release. Only things of true value to a true fan will be locked up in boxed sets (thinking the recent Zappa surround releases). You can also expect those locked up surround mixes to eventually get released as lower priced standalone discs, as that money left on the table still exists with more casual fans. This seems to be more/less how the past 10 years in surround releases have been trending. I'm expecting even more of those standalone discs, for those previously released boxed set surround mixes, in the coming years.

Pearl Jam, as a band, has always been a bit of a music industry outlier (especially considering their well publicized concert ticket pricing war). It doesn't surprise me they're doing surround now, bucking the majority of the industry. I'm just surprised it took them this long.

We seemed to have hit a sweet spot where not only is our niche suddenly of interest to the labels but it’s at a time where so much music is being mixed into Atmos for streaming anyway.

We will see how long it lasts.

I’m surprised we aren’t seeing more of these mixes being sold on physical discs—what’s the cost to press up some Blu-Rays once the mixes have already been done? Can’t be THAT much—but it does seem it takes some degree of artist involvement/interest to make it happen.

Hopefully what SDE has been doing will be of interest to another small label or two so we can get even more product out there.

In the meantime, today is the first I heard about this release (missed this thread earlier) and it seems their website is already sold out. What’s up with only pressing such small numbers of these titles? Back in the day, the MO was to saturate stores with as much product as possible to help increase sales. Even if it meant allowing stores to send back their unsold stock.

Now? They are treated like a rare item that if you don’t pre-order the first day you might not get it at all. Meanwhile, a lot of these titles immediately start selling for ridiculous prices on the secondary market. Seems to me they are often leaving some money on the table to not press enough to meet demand.

Listening now-Pearl Jam- Vitalogy 2024 release Atmos.
Ripped Blu Ray-MKV file. 24bit/48Khz. DR's are 11's, 12's, 13's.
Love the album and that time period of my life.
Big full, Atmos sound, clarity a miss, highs are a little tinny. Bass and midrange adequate. Discrete moments, rare. It is an Atmos bubble at best.
My feeling with Dark Matter and now Vitalogy, the 5.1 DTS HD MSTR will be a preferred listening choice.
The 2024 Tracklist Discogs is wrong.
EDIT ERROR: Album Cover track 14-hey foxymophandlemama, that's me. Screen track 14-Stupid Mop. Someone here will have the answer for this little trick?
