Are we talking about the Area 51 "release" here?
When this thread was started, it appeared there was a new "release". But based on the file size, it seems to be the Area 51 version with the Area 51 artwork stripped off (no honor among bootleggers). When I get a chance, I will send JohnA a screen shot of the Area 51 title menu for verification.

I wonder who Area 51 is anyway, and if anyone knows them/him/her...:).../it...:D...or if it/she/he/they are (a) member(s) here.

Sorry, but it is not. This is sythesized surround from stereo source.

I stand corrected - I wasn't aware of the various quad attempts by punters.
It did feel strange to me that the stereo output of the DVDA is practically identical to the official CD. That should have rang the alarm bells.

I was impressed by the way they've isolated the acoustic guitars and some effects - for an upmix it is just superb.
I should subtly rephrase it then:

Parts of it sound like the real deal:D

I wouldn't discount what DPLII can do...there are three settings to play with , Center Width, Panorama, and Dimension, and it's possible to get varying degrees of 'surround' using them.

Actually the dvd-audio of DSOTM *does* have images, in the form of a slowly changing slideshow. And menus with artwork.
...which is why I said that the 'Animals' DVDA hasn't got such images.
But I now see that my previous wording can be taken either way.
(Good for a politician's speech, but not for a precise post eh...;))

JohnA,

"Animals" was probably the last high profile title that was expected at the end of the quad era. Unlike the CD-4 Hotel California that was speculated but never showed up with a catalog number (QD-1084), "Animals" was scheduled to be in the pipeline. I remember talking on the phone with the guy that ran "Sound Concepts" about it. He told me that he heard from the label that Pink Floyd was "finishing up" the quad mix and the SQ LP and Q8 would be out soon. The quad product showed up in Schwann catalogs and everyone waited..............

Since the project was allegedly completed at the studio level, rumors of it getting out to the public have been floating around and around. Modern surround matrix decoding and center channel extraction have led to the creation of many "home made" mixes proclaiming to be the real thing. It's easy to think that something is real when it's something you REALLY want!

Somewhere, in some cabinet somewhere is the real thing. At some point, it will either be destroyed or make it's way out.

Tell me about it...I remember the rumours and when I checked that the rear channels had just acoustic guitars I thought I might be listening to The Real Thing.
Alas I was fooled by a clever forgery, a good fake, a cruel joke by my subconscious wishful thinking...:phones

Well it was nice while it lasted eh:)

Bit like the closing scene at the Raiders of the lost Ark, with the vast warehouse full of crates and boxes...

Download the free DVD burning program Imgburn http://www.imgburn.com/

Put the folder "AUDIO_TS" into another folder and name that folder "Animals." You should now have the folder "AUDIO_TS" inside the "Animals" folder.

With Imgburn select Mode> Ez-Mode Picker. Then select "Write files / folders to disc" option. And from there click on the "Folder Icon" and select the "Animals" folder. Then select the Folder to Disc Icon on the bottom left and that should burn you your DVD.

Be sure to let us know how it sounds.

Ummm I have a question. I downloaded this DVDA and I obtained a DVD Image. I burned this image with Nero 9 and my DVD said that "this disc is not compatible with your reader". My home cinema can read music in DTS 5.1 without problems  Making the copy with the Imgburn program, can I read this DVD without problems? Or this is a problem of my DVD reader? Thanks again ;)

Nero sometimes could not burn correctly DVD-A image, so ImgBurn is your second chance. In any case ImgBurn is a free tool that can burn almost every image format with no problems including DVD-A.

Back to your first question: is this image a DVD-A only? Check out if your player is capable to play DVD-Audio discs. DTS or Dolby Digital are for DVD-Video only.

Ajam....ok,I think that the problem is my DVD reader (home cinema) can't read this DVDA :( But I'll try to burn it with ImgBurn and I let us know if this works. Thanks!

I edit:
Yes...the problem is the DVD reader :( Can I convert the audio DVD in other format? I want to ear it in my home cionema :( :( :(

Yes you could, but to do so would take too many steps unless you want to take the time to learn how to do this and money to buy software. And in the end you still would not own a DVD-Audio player with more than twice the sound of regular CD’s.

So your best bet is to find a cheap combo DVD-A / SACD player off eBay (or elsewhere) that has 5.1 RCA outputs - provided your AMP has 5.1 RCA inputs. You can get combo player’s for well under $100. There are 3 Yamaha players for sale now: https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11412

Or if your receiver has HDMI inputs and you don’t mind paying a little more the Oppo 980H is highly recommended for many reasons and worth the extra expense. It also has 5.1 RCA outputs: http://www.oppodigital.com/dv980h/
