Ah, another collection, Laser Discs, that I sold for pennies to Amoeba Records in San Francisco. I had the ultra rare Disney- Song Of The South, which they saw immediately and put that under wraps.

I have tons of LD's I have to probably take to the dump. I hate to think of what I spent on them. I too have Song of the South. UGH

I would take Song Of The South and put it in another digital format, wish I did that, not sure the technologie was there then? I am sure some of what you have also have laser rot?

On second listen, what stands out for me is the surround imaging and the different instrument placement compared with other mixes. First: you've got bass guitar everywhere, even in the center speaker. The mix is also very rear heavy, not only because some of the bass lines are in the backs, because also you've got some drums and not only percussion. You'd better have full range rear speakers for this beast.
At times, more than discrete, I would define this mix as enveloping. But don't get me wrong, it is discrete, but sometimes there's a very clear phantom image of some instruments between fronts and rears (acoustic guitars in YAM for example).
Regarding mastering, I've begun to find moments of brightness that I don't like (echoing vocals in the rears in ANM part 1 and 2, for example).
Anyway, this second listen is being the "cerebral" one and at lower volume than it should be.
More impressions about the mix tomorrow!
Very detailed description of the mix. Thank you.

It looks like Andy's use of the center channel has evolved yet again - on The Division Bell he barely used it at all, then on Rattle That Lock he used it sparingly it to highlight the occasional vocal or instrument line, and on Meddle he went for the Steven Wilson dry-vocals-in-the-center approach. This time, it looks to match a lot of what's in the fronts - but of course looks can be deceiving when it comes to waveforms.

You have sparked my curiosity....

Watching the Blu Ray of Pulse now. Aspect ratio and surround not as good as Delicate (which is superb). Wasn't going to even bother with the DVD of Delicate, but I'll look at the DVD of Pulse, maybe better?

I am working today, house projects and catching up on all my ripping that I haven't done in awhile 18 various discs, DVD A, DTS CD, and BD-A.
I have all these rips and at least that many of digital downloads, that I need to copy from my back up hard drive to my spare back up hard drive. I love all this, looking at discs, reading liner notes, ripping, fixing digital problems, it is all part of my big hobby I call listening to music.

I hate, fear and resent all of you who already have yours! I spent the entire day with the UPS web page open on my phone with them telling me it was due between 4:15 and 8:15. Didn't run some errands I needed to so I could be sure to be home when it got here. Watched the truck on the little map get very, very close to my house...and then go back to UPS HQ. The estimated delivery time changed from that four hour window to "Will be delivered by end of day." Of course, the truck never came back. I went to bed and woke up briefly about 1:30. Checked my phone and magically it's now due Monday. They're now claiming that they simply never received it. Obviously, one of the things they tried to tell me is a lie!

I had something else do exactly that on a Friday. It was "out for delivery", I waited, waited, then they said "Will be delivered by the end of the day (8PM)". Waited. Nothing. In fact, UPS was here earlier dropping a package off for my wife. Not mine. 8PM came and went.

That Saturday, I tracked it again and it still said "Out for delivery". On Sunday it said "Arriving Monday by 8PM"

I think what happens this time of year is that the drivers have so many packages that they actually screw up and miss one, then don't have time to go back in their route so they just leave it there for the next day. Hey, we all screw up at times.

Yeah but let them screw up on someone's Omaha steaks delivery instead. The delivery delay will help the meat age.
Fresh tunes must be consumed right away !!!

Does anyone else think that on the BluRay of the surround mixes (Disc 8) that The Division Bell sounds a lot better than Momentary Lapse? Compared to The Division Bell, Momentary almost sounds a bit muddy to me. Of course, it could be my shitty hearing but TDB hell, I forgot how great that surround mix was - and how clear and defined it sounded.

I felt the one transitioned in to the other pretty nicely. I had AMLoR cranked pretty good and thought it sounded good. I'm not intimately familiar with the original though. I found it off-putting and sterile, back in the day. It feels warm and organic now, the occasional 80s sounds aside.

I agree with you, I even mentioned that in one of my comments yesterday, if I remember correctly.
