Greetings folks.

I'm glad to see that someone (wink wink) has been able to distribute the updated firmware for this unit.

Some of you may be aware of a class action suit that has been brought against Pioneer regarding incompatibilities in their DVD players sold in the last few years. I've been speaking with an attorney that is representing the class in this case. Turns out he's very interested in this issue, regarding DVD-A playback. We've been trading emails and phone calls, and he would like to add this issue to the class action, since it seems to be caused by the same problem: Pioneer's lack of willingness to give its customers the time of day, or to provide products that work as advertised. I've volunteered to be the class representative for this portion of the suit; basically it's my responsibility to speak on behalf of the class at any depositions or at a trial.

One thing that would help greatly is this proceeding is name and address information of other 563a owners who have been affected by this issue. If you would like to participate, please send your contact information (name, address, phone number if you like) to [email protected].

I'd like to stress that you do not have to give me this information to be considered part of the class; having more names simply means the problem is significant enough to amend the suit.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.

I hope to hear from folks soon.

I did the upgrade.Thanks.I have a question regarding DVD audio. When I play the REM dvd-audio disk in high resolution surround, and hit the display button,it says "96khz24bit3/2.1ch.Is this high resolution 5.1?
If I choose High resolution stereo, will display 192khz24bit2/0ch.Is this right?

The highest resolution you can have for 5.1 is currently 96/24 with the DVD-A specs. The highest available 2.0 resolution is 192/24 so your player is displaying the correct information.

Thanks Bob!I didn't know much about DVD-audio since my player did not play the first on I bought(The Best of REM In Time 1988-2003).Now it plays in high resolution surround!.I'm glad I waited for the firmware on the web.Pioneer said I would have to take my player way across town(I live in North Atlanta)and leave it with the service center for 3 weeks!*******s!This is the last Pioneer product I will buy.I was interested in a Pioneer Elite receiver, now I'm looking at a Yamaha RX 2600.

Since firmware update is a serious matter, could anyone please confirm that the burn procedure is this simple?:

- Download zip and extract .iso.
- Start DVDDecrypter and change to ISO W mode
- Insert CD-R in burner
- Select .iso file and run decrypter

Many thanks in advance
AL

thats what I did

Thanks. Everything went OK? After passing all the steps and turning off and on the unit, I have no video output at all... Unit is not K.O, I can run the update again with steps visible on TV screen. But something is wrong, that's for sure.

Cheers
AL

Edit: Nevermind, it was a truly silly matter. I of course checked the progressive scan setting, but I didn't think of the possibility that upgrade also turned off the RGB output. So the solution was just to make my TV recognize the composite signal. Blush.

Oh, and a million thanks to bru87tr for making available the iso file!!!

I just wanted to drop in and give a big thanks for the iso file. I downloaded and installed it no problem. I had just about given up on the 563, and had stopped buying dualdisks and DVD-A's. I was about to get a new player, and was directed to this link from the sound and vision forums.

thanks again for the link the the iso file.

THANX br87tr for the ISO file upgrade!!! & thanks ArnoldLayne for the step-by-step!!

All The Love In The World by NIN is finally playing in it's DualDisc glory on my Pioneer 563A.

The ISO file worked like a charm and now I can play the DualDisc's that were not playing such as NIN With Teeth and The Talking Heads Remain In Light. Now I can disconnect the $25 Cyberhome player that these discs played just fine on and switch back to the Pioneer 563A.

I've been following this thread for over a year and was reluctant to bring in my player to a service center. This was such a simple upgrade. What the hell was Pioneers problem. Don't they know that were on computers now and we do upgrades practically daily with Windows and Norton. Geez, finally a happy ending!!!!!
Later,

Rod

It's so great to be able to play all your surround disks , I went through the same with my 563a I did the firmware upgrade last month and now everything plays !!! I was wondering if there is a way or a setting on the 563a to display all the audio options? since the upgrade only the Advanced resolution showes on the menu ???

Do you mean accessing the DTS and Dolby digital tracks? It should be possible via disc menu. If not, you can also force DVD-Audio/-Video setting to "DVD Video".

Cheers

I did the step by step with dvddecryptor and when i insert the disc it says DOWNLOAD on the LED, but never goes beyond that point. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Thanks

Difficult to say, here´s a couple of suggestions:

- Maybe player already has 1.906 firmware?

- Did you burn on DVD? (It has to be a CD)

Cheers
AL

it did the same thing for me too. try running in thru again, it worked the second time for me. Come to think of it the first time it didn't work I may have burned a new cd using nero the second time. Either way, I had the same thing "downloading" then it stopped...but worked the next time.

WOW that was Just To Easy, many many thanks.
I burnt the iso image with Nero onto a CDr and put it in my Pioneer DV-563A.
It loaded ok and went through a 12 step process by it's self and then popped the CDr out.I removed the CDr and turn the unit off, waited a bit and turn it back on. It came back on and I just had to reset the options
like 16x9 TV and Progressive scan.I was final able to play my T.Rex Electric Warrior DVD Audio disc in the Advanced Resolution mode and it sounds fantastic. Now Why couldn't Pioneer offer the firmware via a download?
Again many many Thanks Romany Stew

this is an official pioneer firmware as far as I know and was told. it sure looks as official as can be. use at your own risk and I will not be responsible for user error! be aware that firmware upgrades do go wrong and if do can screw up your player. although I have never experienced this and is quite easy and does not require much user input at really any difficult level.

for the inexperienced & others: I am just protecting my butt. I am as frustrated as you pioneer wouldnt release this and I am only trying to help. it worked for me just fine but again, use at your own risk. follow the tv screen onscreen menu and follow the directions. it will show you everything its doing step by step. insert the disc and let it go! do not press play as it auto loads. just follow the onscreen menu/directions that come on your tv screen.

this is an ISO image that can be burned with most software writing programs. I used dvddecryptors ISO write utility. the file is zipped with winzip as to make the file much smaller.

enjoy guys and good luck!

Just a quick note thanking the forum for the 563a firmware. I downloaded the 1.90 ISO image from this thread, burned it to a CD-RW using Toast 7 Titanium on my Power Mac G5 dual, turned on my player, inserted the disk, waited for the 12 steps to be completed (DOWNLOAD, STEP 1,...STEP 12, OK), the player ejected the disk on its own. I played my most problematic DVD-A, which is the Buena Vista Social Club, which now plays end-to-end with zero flaws. My firmware now displays" ROM: 1.906_sglstp". Thanks again for the assistance.

Just a thought-Pioneer didn't have any subliminal things in mind when they decided to have the f/w update in 12 steps, did they? ("hi, I'm audiofox, and I am a multichannel audio addict..."). :)

So, before I do the upgrade should I write down my current settings? Like speaker size, distance etc.?

What I am asking is does the upgrade hose your settings?

Thanks,

Norman
