Just an FYI - the latest version 12.0.0 beta 3 release of Symfonium (Android only) seemed to be highly customizable:

  • Complete rewrite of the Now Playing screens and their settings. You can now create the Now Playing screens of your dreams in both portrait and landscape modes, with a preview mode to ease tweaking the many new options.
    • Configure what is visible, where and how it’s displayed.
    • Support always visible lyrics and/or queue in landscape mode.
    • Support advanced strings templates with conditions for all strings.
    • And much more.
  • Introduce the concept of Application and Now Playing Styles. You can now export and import these styles to share with others.
    • Application Styles embed nearly all interface settings (including current now playing style), allowing you to change the whole interface in two clicks and discover the full power of Symfonium customization without having to adjust every setting individually.
    • Now Playing Styles embed the complete Now Playing settings, allowing you to completely change the Now Playing interface in two clicks.
    • You can use the dedicated forum section to share your styles and discover those created by other users.
  • Symfonium now includes multiple default Application Styles and new Now Playing Styles to ensure seamless adaptation for users.

Positive feedback could be found easily:

Kodi works like a champ too as you can add the A6's smb share as local storage. Other features like remote control and 'casting' through apps like Yatse (same developer as Symfonium) work really well. Personally I prefer Kodi and Symfonium to to the native player. Both have been developed for far longer and are much more feature packed. I realise these solutions aren't for everyone though. Just like a little tinker!

Symfonium is the most beautiful music player I've seen so far, even more than Roon, and has a great UPNP/DLNA protocol, gapless if the streamer on the other end is also gapless. Also, it works very well with external servers - I've tried all of them and Jellyfin is the best, by far - you can put it on a NAS or a Windows PC and control everything trough your phone with this app.

I tried a few out and the one that meets my privacy, price, and UX requirements is Symfonium. They don’t collect your data and you can purchase a permanent licence for AUD $8.99. There’s multiple options as to how you can store your music (I think it’s intended for a NAS or home server), but I’m a noob and this is all supposed to be cheap and easy, so Google Drive it is.

I’m an Android man so it is easy for me. I use Yatse or Symfonium as they understand a good old fashion set of well tagged files on the local device. As well as enabling me to stream from my home music server.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but WOW! Symfonium is exactly what I need! Streaming music from Google Drive (and submitting it to Listenbrainz of course). If I feel strong later I might try to set up something like Jellyfin… THANKS for mentioning this!

I use Yatse as I have an old phone otherwise I would have moved to Symfonium. The developer is excellent and will listen to requests in the forum. (Though he is a developer so don’t ask daft questions). As I am KODI based I love how Yatse works for me. (Paid for it three or four times now to support the dev)

My own personal streaming solution is working well. My home KODI server is packed full of much music. So I just turn on my Wireshark VPN on my phone to connect to home. And play music from there.

When I don’t want to stream, flip an option in Yatse and I play from the local phone instead.

Obviously that ain't free for sure, though it's still more cost effective to pay for something upfront rather than relinquishing our privacy every single day.

Combining that with some PRs submitted by @the-black-eagle (for the upcoming Kodi 22 "Piers") while having excellent metadata + chapters + album art support for the Matroska Audio container format, we're gonna have heck of an awesome ecosystem here.
