I havent used a tower in my home in 15 years. Unless you need to fill it with HDDs for storage or need a super large monitor there is no reason. I have a NAS to take care of all that storage now. You can get laptops now that easily compete with most tower designs with respect to performance. I did use a small tower for work before i retired, but that was just because i did a lot with solidworks and needed the 2 big monitors. Those days are gone for me.

I at least need room for a decent GPU, so I'm stuck with a tower at the moment. But the HDDs all go into a NAS.

I am definitely thinking about getting another NUC and cloning the SSD from my Official QuadraphonicQuad Media Player™.

Hi all, just got my new NUC and I've got a problem.
My desktop can see Kodi, but Kodi can't see my desktop. I have 2 desktops on this network and they talk to each other.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have a similar problem as above. I cannot get my NUC to find my media library on my home network. I have another NUC that I was using previously with JRiver and it found my network media library no problem. I have other players (Roku, Sonos, Cambridge streamer) that also find my media library with no issues. I feel like it must be a setting either in my new NUC or in my Windows PC (the source of the media library) that I am missing.

I have a Windows PC that is my "hub" for all my music and media, and it shares it on my WiFi network. But when I try to add media in my new NUC, nothing shows up when I browse for the library.

Also, I am not sure if this is related to the same issue, but I tried @LuvMyQuad's suggestion to see lyrics on screen and no luck with that either, it could not find lyrics. However, it does find artist pictures and info etc. Puzzling. I'm ok with techie stuff to a point but not when it involves going deep into computer menus etc.

Any help would be much appreciated!

First off. There are no settings in the NUC. Both wired and wifi are enabled and there is no setting to turn them on or off.

Be sure your network is set as discoverable.

You have to be connected to the internet to get lyrics.

Im pretty sure @HomerJAU already provided a tutorial for this. In any event, heres how i do it with a wired connection.
Go to settings/media/library/music/add music/browse/zeroconf browser

At this point your library should show up in a list. Choose it. Enter a username and password. Navigate to the roor directory of your library. Choose remember for this path. Select ok

There are other ways depending on if your source is NFS enabled. Mine isnt

My NUC is somewhere in Montreal right now so I should receive it here in Quebec city in the beginning of next week. Can't wait to receive it....

Could somebody confirm if there is only 1 NVMe PCI-e socket in the NUC ? I'll probably go to the local Best Buy to get a 2 TB SSD (WD Blue SN580 is around $165 CAD right now) so that I can have more storage, since I'm beginning to be short on free space on the 2 USB external drives that are connected on my current Odroid N2 with CoreElec. If by chance there is a 2nd one, I would not have to clone the SSD included in the NUC and would just add the new 2 TB one for more free space..

Tried all this and still no luck. It's puzzling because every other device in my network can see my media library. I confirmed the NUC is connected to my wifi network, that's not the issue. I'm giving up on going wireless on this. I will buy another external USB hard drive, copy everything over that, and connect that directly into my NUC (and then add new media files manually as I add them to my library). Try this. Start playing a piece of music, something pretty well known. Press ok on the remote to bring up the player controls at the top of the screen. Go to the 4th icon from the right. It looks like a sheet of text with a music note on it. Instant lyrics. To get out of that, hit the back button on the remote. Its one of my favorite kodi things.

Ok, I got the lyrics thing to work. Totally unexpected how the lyrics pop onto the screen. Very cool! Thanks for the tip.

You dont need to buy another drive.

I hooked up my NUC this morning - very easy to add to my Denon AVR and configure per the tutorial. I got it connected it to my Synology DS220+ via SMB and pulled in a few files, but haven't let it rip on the full library yet...have some errands to run now. My library is almost entirely MP3s (mostly used for the car and workshop until now) so I haven't experienced anything in surround. But this is far better than in the past when I tried loading files using my Android TV or AVR - they both choked on the entire library (~30k tracks) and would take forever to load even the folder hierarchies. I'll play with it more later this weekend.

Yes, correct, I am on my wireless network and connected to the internet (the NUC found my network and I just had to type in my network's password). The library is on a desktop Windows PC somewhere else in my house, connected to the same wireless network. It is just not being found by the NUC for some reason. I went through all my settings on the Windows PC to make sure it was allowing the sharing of the library on the network, everything seems to be in order (as I mentioned, all my other devices can "see" the library even though not directly connected to the Windows PC). I even tried manually typing in the library's IP address into the NUC with no luck.

We are supposed to be able to access other drives on the network. I have been able to get to other PCs on the network, but i havent been able to get to a USB attached drive yet. Perhaps @HomerJAU can help out here with some guidance when he gets a chance. Stay tuned.

Ok. Running Windows on wired connection with a 15TB hard drive attached.
I'm trying to get Kodi to access the drive with all the music on it.
My PC sees the Nuc and i can move folders in and out no problem. But I can't get the Nuc to see my 2 Pc's on the network, but it does see 2 Synology boxes i have on the network. Just tried the instructions in post 397 with no luck.
