Trouble now is I need to watch all 4 of my discs in all formats to see if they are OK. That could take ages.

Can someone post a photo of the faulty disc surfaces so I can visually check my discs for the same flaws?
Hi Owen
I've not heard of any visible defects on the disc surface, but that's not to say this release has not been affected by such issues. I understand that it's more of an authoring defect, but don't quote me. My disc playing surfaces look fine, but they definitely don't play in my Sony and Panasonic players (but do in my PS5, weirdly).

If it's an authoring issue then they should do a full recall and replacement. Just because my current Oppo players can handle it doesn't mean whatever I may have in future will be able to play them.

Thanks for the photo Mandrix, that's clearly not a disc authoring problem. Of course there may be more than one problem with these discs.

UN/UK finally said to reach out to mercuryrecords, which I had already done. I was told same as someone else posted, new discs have been manufactured, and they are awaiting delivery. I had to once again submit a photo of the disc, same as I posted earlier here with the "bad spots" circled.
So at least things are moving along, and that's good.

Has anyone received any more word about replacement discs? If indeed mercury records were waiting on the new discs to arrive a month ago then seems like more than enough time to get them out.
I sent them another email. Sigh.

Some people on the blu ray dot com forums got theirs already. I sent out an email start of last week and heard nothing back as of yet…

I haven't had chance to check if all my original ones are OK or not. Do we know if it was just physical damage, or if they've actually changed the content of the discs?

Owen at least play or rip them to tell the story. Otherwise you may be perfectly OK.
Blemishes on discs don't always mean bad disc.

I have three more discs to play, and the 4K ones may have to be played in both SDR and HDR to be sure. That's 3 or 5 more watches of this. I like Queen but I'll have to space that over a few months or I'll be sick of this concert.

I would just rip them. If there are no ripping errors then probably OK. I could not rip anything off BD 2.

I have no means of ripping them. OK my laptop can read blu rays but I have no software to do it. For the 4K discs the only drive I have that can read them is in my Oppo 203. And on top of that I'm completely disinterested in ripping blu rays.

Well makeMKV is free while in beta. Just saying. The point was not whether you needed/wanted to rip but help determine if there were any problems with the discs. But whatever works for you, Owen.

The real problem areas with the defective discs were loading and the guitar solo. If you can get the discs to load, access the menu, select the guitar solo and get through the playback of that without any freeze ups or errors you should be good to go.

The menus are OK on all the discs, I already tried those. Thanks for the tip about the guitar solo, that narrows it down a lot and is plausible for me to watch that on all discs.

How do you rip 4K discs anyway? Can you get computer drives that will read 4K? Everything I've seen for computers goes no further than blu ray.

Yeah I did not think about that, Owen, but:
The newer optical drives on pc's will not rip UHD. I have an LG WH16NS40 BD-RE with rolled back firmware that will.
The LG WG14NS40 with it's older firmware should rip right out of the box. Mine actually uses that firmware, and it was installed by DVDFab. I have done it manually before but not for this purpose.

I have a Verbatim rebranded Pioneer external drive that I'm pretty sure won't rip UHD discs.
