Rhino Quadio Batch 5 for August 2024!

I kinda want those who ordered batch 4 enjoy them, digest them... or at least receive them, shipping notices be damned!
We have 4 more, currently slated for early August. Another diverse assortment of not-previously reissued Quads!

Some of us purchase titles we don't get to for a while. Never mind that, please continue to strike while the iron is hot!
"Not previously reissued" would point to quad titles issued at some point I read that as no unissued titles in this batch. (as he closes the unreleased quad list)
Likely candidates:

Elektra: Stardrive - Intergalactic Trot
Atlantic: Duke Ellington - New Orleans Suite
Atlantic: Bette Midler - The Divine Miss M
Warner: Seals & Crofts - Diamond Girl

Steve says four yet-to-be-rereleased titles, so that excludes Aretha's Greatest, since that got a Quadio DVD-V release.


The only Doors period quad mix (The Best of the Doors) has already been rereleased twice on digital disc, including once by Rhino (but first by Audio Fidelity).


Machine Head did, yes, but there's also the quad mix of Stormbringer. I don't expect a standalone Quadio release of that one, at least not until the Deep Purple team has a crack at it first, just like Machine Head.

Best Of Bread was also released by AF

AFAIK, no Quadio so far has been a greatest hits compilation album - maybe "The Best of Carly Simon" to whet our appetites for a multi disc Carly Simon Quadio box set (and would qualify as an Elektra label title)?

I'd like to know when Rhino is going to start repeating artists' albums in quad. Every release so far has been a new band/artist. Also, all three of the quadio boxes so far (Chicago, Doobies, Joni) has come out every four years. Any chance we could get one a year?

For James Taylor, who has 3 , I'm thinking Rhino might want to do what they did for Joni Mitchell...3 , plus a newly minted quad .

Deep Purple did get a quad reissue, in the UK anyway. Foraging said it was four quads that have not been reissued.

Damn. 4 more quad mixes of Machine Head?

There's a jazz title in there. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the Gil Evans Quadio has been selling!

I'm pretty sure , but stand corrected , almost every Atlantic quad title is Jazz , or Jazz Oriented.
Very few exceptions on that label.

I think J Geils , Billy Cobham, and The James Gang might be the exceptions.

Would be really cool if you uncovered something lately that has not been released., such as a previously unknown quad title.

Billy Cobham is certainly more jazz-oriented than Bette Midler or Roberta Flack.

I, for one, still cannot fully comprehend all the secrecy surrounding these releases. RHINO/WARNER have certainly been busy beavers in the last year or so releasing an abundance of stunning ATMOS/5.1 BD~A surround titles. And with SURROUND seemingly catching on in ways we could never imagine it might be nice to know, in advance, how to budget our purchases!

Most artists/record labels proudly herald upcoming surround releases with plenty of advance notice but even D~V has been mum on what titles they have in the wings for future release.

I say LET IT ALL HANG OUT and rather than proffer incessant guessing games.....just SPIT IT OUT!

IMHO, the guessing game is kinda fun...and as a payoff, we actually get 4 Quadios (unlike some situations during the quad era when titles would be shown in ads [Deep Purple - Burn] which were never released).

Not QUADIO titles Bill, but I have passed on MANY surround titles from other artists I deemed 'out of my comfort zone!'

IMO, Surround is no longer the niche market it used to be with the sudden effusion of ATMOS...everyone seems to be getting in on the act so I find it no longer necessary to make an automatic purchase JUST BECAUSE IT'S IN SURROUND!

I was only referring to the vintage Quadios. I am sure there are many you pass on in the overall market, as do we all.

I agree 100% with that last paragraph. I would add that they are being put out so fast that many aren’t that spectacular. There is definitely a “fad” factor happening.

As nice as the boxed sets can look on the shelf, I'd be pretty surprised if we saw this. I wouldn't recommend Rhino do this, but they know better than me, I'm sure.

No disrespect to Carly or any of her big fans AT ALL, but she was never really known as an album artist. Certainly not in the way Joni, Chicago or even the Doobie Brothers were. Did she ever have a non-single album track that ever received any significant attention or airplay? I can't think of one. And few people, if any, talk about how great any Carly Simon album was as a work of art (the album covers notwithstanding ). So I don't think it would either be fair OR good business to force anyone interested in purchasing, say, "No Secrets", to have to buy an entire set of albums for $80 to get it. I think they'd be better off to market and sell them individually.

Then again, I could be wrong and this might be Rhino's next big announcement and it'll sell like hotcakes. (pun intended)

Beyond that -- it seems at this point that Carly and James Taylor are the two biggest artists left to not receive any Quadio treatment. If we go through 5 batches without anything from either, I'll start to think something must be up. That either the artists are nixing the releases or their royalty agreements are such that the bean-counters at Rhino have determined it won't work for them.

BTW, there was chatter over at thedigitalbits website that RHINO was indeed preparing Joni Mitchell's Archives ATMOS box #3 [1976~1980] consisting of Hejira, Don Juan's Reckless Daughter, Mingus and the double LIVE album SHADOWS AND LIGHT!
