IMO the WEA group of labels probably ran the most 'curated' approach to artist rostering of all the majors in the '70s, and their quad mixes (released and unreleased) are for the most part the most commercially viable of those, so even today, 50 years later there aren't many I'd be worried couldn't sell out a minimum Blu-Ray pressing (1,000?) especially given the perpetual 4-for-the-price-of-3-plus-10-to-15-percent-off sale that Rhino's website is running.

I love Quad, but if I don't like the music, then it's totally meaningless for me.
I agree. I've changed my mindset these days to not being a collector, but more of a "if I like it, I buy it." I bought a few, like Hot Tuna and Gil Evans, but I ended up selling it soon after arrival. Not my bag. They only cost me $5 because of the bundle deal, so a win for me and the buyer.

Disappointed in "The Doobie Brothers Toulouse Street" release in this set. For those of us wanting to collect them all and support Rhino, we are just paying for a duplicate contained in the box set. I think they should have included an Atmos mix on the disc so that we would have additional content and value to make the purchase worthwhile.
You don't have to buy it.
I'm sitting out Foghat too.
I'll just wait until I can bundle 4 I want, or buy on sale in a few months.

Well, it's a great story of Rhino and their audio engineer Bob Vosgien coming to QQ to tell us the story of the first Quadio back in 2010. Most of those posts still exist here in the Quadio section of the forum and are well worth reading when you have time.

The Chicago Transit Authority DTS disc was the first of the Quadios and it represented a new program that unfortunately was terminated with only 2 releases due to some major shake ups at WB.

Although he was involved back then, Our friend Foraging Rhino (Steve) was not posting here at QQ back then, it was a guy named John Hughes. There's a lot to go through here, but the audio engineer Bob Vosgien actually posted here, and in PMs to me told me of all of the titles he was given to prepare for the program, over 40 titles!! Back then, they also included the Capitol Q8 titles (although not the solo Beatles releases)

It's best to read through the old threads. I will add them to the list here. You can relive the excitement from 14 years ago for the very first Quadios. We were all bummed that the program got tanked, but then Steve rescued it a few years later and SHOCKED us with the Chicago box set, probably one of the best quad box sets ever released!

This forum is a great library of the history of Quad from 2002 to the present. Members should really reach back and relive some of the great stuff, good and bad, that we've experienced over that time.

Here's your reading assignments - you will have fun reading these:

Holy Crap! John Hughes? He had the best music blog ages ago. Wrote about lots of great stuff from the 80's. Lost track of the blog, but was really a fun read.

Hmmm, batch #7

Well I'd like to see Billy Cobham Spectrum, and toss in James Gang Miami , and then ???I don't know.

There are some real moderations left to pick from , so I suppose whatever Rhino picks , I'll take.
Would love to see another 'new quad' mixed from the 70's..there are sooooo many potential winners there.

Kinda hoping , in a big way, James Taylor gets a box treatment with his three , ie, One Man Dog , Gorilla, and the previously unreleased..In The Pocket.
Maybe if not this year , early next would be just fine.

Could also be that the restored stereo mix on a Quadio could include some songs "unplugged mix" or "rough mix" as some of my newly purchased CDs do (I was just replacing my vinyl copies with CDs, I didn't buy the CDs for the added mixes).

Kirk Bayne

Wondering if the two Souther, Hillman, Furay albums could be issed as a 2 fer. The first one reached #11, went gold and spawned a Top 30 single with Furay's "Falling In Love". The follow-up album broke the Top 40, but was not as successful. (Both did end up being mainstays of the cut-out bins). I have never heard the quad mix of either, so have no idea about how they sound. Being a fan of Buffalo Springfield and Poco, I was a big fan of Furay's vocals. (Oddly enough, my favorite Poco era is the 'fab four' era, after Richie left, and before Tim departed for the Eagles.)

SHR was a collaboration of great musicians that never quite caught on as a group, I never understood why. Maybe it was the name:) yes, I don’t know what the quad mix is like, but I would like to hear them.

I would buy all of the Jefferson Airplane quads
Bark was on Grunt. Q8-only in US. Airplane releases prior to that were on RCA (Sony). Bark would be a great Quad rerelease!

other suggestions:
Push, Push - Herbie Mann w/Duane Allman Q8-only
Cold on the Shoulder - Lightfoot
Greatest Hits - Carly Simon
Judith - Judy Collins my bull's-eye German CD is autographed
Deliver the Word - War Q8 only their best my Gold CD Lonnie autographed
Plastic Dreams - MJQ Q8 only
Intergalactic Trot - Stardrive (Robert Mason) we demo'ed Quad with the CD-4

Lightfoot Gord's Gold was announced in Quad. Was it ever mixed?

Would love to have these, including Bark. Unfortunately, Steve (ForagingRhino) confirmed that anything prior to 1972 for the Airplane family stayed with RCA, even if they were released on Grunt. Thus, our hope for Bark or Sunfighter lies with Dutton Vocalion.

AFAIK, QL foraging rhino said that Gord’s Gold was never remixed

I think they should have included an Atmos mix on the disc so that we would have additional content and value to make the purchase worthwhile.
In order to do that, the label would have to recover + digitize the original multitrack masters, then get someone to do the Atmos mix. Probably not a trivial matter in terms of cost and effort.

If there was one Doobies album viable for an Atmos upgrade, I'd bet on it being The Captain and Me since those multitracks were already digitized for Elliot Scheiner's 5.1 mix back in 2001.

Another consideration, and yes this is a consideration, is that Rhino might see the promise of a collection of quad starts as a compilation(unless bonus tracks are best).

We know from Steve that there are a number of albums that have only one or two quad tracks , (maybe even a half album).
So there are uncompleted quad album mixes .

Makes me wonder what there is that's viable for a Quadio disc.

There may be enough of an album to bring in a quad engineer to sprinkle fairy dust in the quad album starts to fully complete the start-ups. Now this option could be what is presently being considered by Rhino , but I'll leave it with Steve if he should want to elaborate.

Anyways there are 3 options I've come up with , not knowing what is actually planned.
