He also did the Atmos and 5.1 mixes for Kiss Creatures of The Night 😬
Instant purchase for me, one of my favorites also, Trower's guitar and Dewar's vocals were a one-of-a-kind combination. Received news this morning of the vinyl super deluxe editions for Creatures of the Night with the atmos blu ray. Thankful this Atmos release is not included in a $600 or $900 bloated box!

I had the same reaction mostly. Here is my hope. It's my belief that Bridge of Sighs as an original release, has real nice, punchy fidelity. My vinly copy sounds just super. Vagabond, on the other hand....personally, I've never felt the stereo version sounds as punchy as Bridge does. My opinion again.

So, worse case scenario, the surround mix is conservative. Add a conservative mix to a great sounding title, sit in the sweet spot, crank it up. I feel like for $40-45 (import will likely be under $40) you get to hear some live stuff, maybe some out takes, instrumental version and a new Atmos/5.1 mix of one of my very favorite titles....with a 24 page booklet and pics......

I'm still very excited about this. And who knows, if it is Whittaker, maybe he'll be motivated since this is a classic title of great importance. (that's my take on the album's place in history, lol)
Amen Brother Gene!

Don’t like hearing that, Jonathan. Whittaker’s surround remix of Vagabonds of the Western World was inconsistent at best and left a lot to be desired.

The feeling I got when listening to Vagabonds is that Whittaker wasn’t well acquainted with the original recording and it showed. For instance, Eric Bell’s solo in The Rocker is prime material for surround treatment, yet Whittaker barely did anything with it.

My hope is that his familiarity with Bridge Of Sighs is much greater allowing him to create a more engaged and natural surround mix.

Fingers crossed!

Wowee - just brilliant news. One of my all time favs. Still have the original UK vinyl - worn out though it is…. Yay!! Ordered…

Agree! For the life of me, especially on these critical releases from historical albums. Why in the F don't they state who is doing the mixes? I guarantee, if it were Wilson or Tayler, it would say upfront. Clearly, those 2 guys demand attention when their name is on the mix. Does that mean no one else commands that respect? I'd think Soord does as well. Clear-Day Mountain as well.

Geoff Emerick has a unique past what with all his quad and surround mixes via Abbey Road .

I love his mixes of( Beatles Anthology?) I think or assist engineering.
For me it's just the 5.1 that matters.

Important Edit : And he died in 2018........so who is it ?
Atmos inception was 2012 , so I guess it's possible Emerick did it prior to his passing.

So, if it's Richard Whittaker....this title has been announced. I mean, if I were him, I'd be on social media tooting my own horn. Yeah? Why not? No one else will....

As an old fart here that was fortunate to see them live in the mid 70's...
Snap ... though I was a young fart back then :p. Had to look up when I saw him in Oz, turned out it was 1977. Will definitely order this, but will wait to see if there's a cheaper price for Canada (The May 17th. release date and past experience suggests ImportCDs might trump Amazon's). But great news, and hope Twice Removed From Yesterday gets the same treatment. 🤞

Oh boy. That was one of the most disappointing 5.1 mixes I've ever heard.

This would have been an instant buy from me if the person handling the surround mixes was better at it. I'll wait for reviews to hear if Whittaker has learned something since his last projects.

Anyone who believes that "artificial intelligence" provides reliable answers is not that intelligent ;)
AI can provide reliable answers if it is sourced by reliable knowledge databases. They exist as that, but not free access to everybody. You know... Knowledge is Power.

Copilot or ChatGPT are chatbots that do "reliable" conversation using "reliable" human language syntax. That's what many don't understand.

We have to be intelligent to understand who do we interact to. For example, asking an adult musician expert is not the same as asking a 4-year-old child who doesn't know what it means to mix in Dolby Atmos. Everyone would know how to clearly differentiate these two interlocutors, but for many it is difficult to understand what a chatbot is.
