Smart phones are nothing new, phone style may have changed a wee bit since the mid-late-60s though!

View attachment 111996 Loved Get Smart as a kid, yep we even got it on this side of the pond!
As much as I loved Barbara Feldon in the “straight man” role of 99, no one will touch the brilliance of Diana Rigg as Emma Peel!

The worst feeling in the world is going back to old family photos and videos on film for digitization...and running into rot.
Oh man, Iam truly sorry to hear this. How old were the films?

I've got 4 reels of Super 8 videos from 1972 Daytona Bike week and have always said I was going to have them digitize, to watch again. Maybe I should rethink this, as I have enough disappointments in my life now

How about reading in an old project from Protools HD days (15-20 years ago) and the saved file path from the handful of missing files ends with "Desktop/"!
(When Protools would crash it would often reset to defaults. Default file save path was your Desktop folder. When you didn't catch that... The overdubs that day went to the desktop folder instead of the project folder that was dutifully archived.)

Is "Protools" on the swear word list for the webpage? Should be!

MY Rhino order from 12/6 was shipped in 3 separate deliveries. Tusk and Gene Rafferty vinyls, each shipped separately both came from 1 Viper Place, and arrived in excellent shape.....BUT.....Not a word on my Joni Mitchell Quadio's and trying Rhinos order history says "In Progress"

On the other hand, ordered a few SACD's from the other side of the world, ordered 12/14 and arrived 12/22

When they go, I guess they go.
My home PC laptop just doesn't function well anymore.
The main thing is the constant refresh I have to do.
I have had 3 PC Tune Ups from my Best Buy account in the last 6 weeks and it just isn't good.
Windows 10- 8 years old, but I loved it.
Now all this Windows 11 updates threats, etc I just said, well it's not working well anymore so dive in and get a new PC.
MY NEW DELL
This will be fine, I don't need a lot.

I have a dozen or so VHS tapes that I’m hoping against hope that I can find a deck that will play them so I can digitize them. They didn’t play last time I tried (looks like mostly weak control tracks, IIRC).

When my mom passed away last April, I found a stack of boxes of photos anout three feet high. A lot of them are in good shape, but a lot are duplicates. I intend to go through them, weed out the dupes, send them to siblings and digitize the best copies in at least 4k resolution. Couple of years, that one.

Are your VHS tapes home movies?
I found that my home videos always looked better when played back through the camcorder that they were recorded on. I had totally forgot about that when I sold the camcorder many years ago.
I just recently picked up a nearly identical one at a thrift store. Haven't tried it out yet, but I'm hoping it plays like my old one.
I always preferred the manual tracking control over the automatic tracking.

A few of the tapes are home movies, but most are TV shows. I haven’t checked in a couple of years, but when Imdid, the shows wereen’t available commercially.

Yes, a tape will undoubtedly play best on the deck that recorded it. A lot of adjustments for cross-compatibility could be a bit off, but the deck will still put signals down on the tape, albeit not exactly where the spec says they belong. I think I’m still reasonably capable of aligning a VHS (or Beta, or U-matic) deck, but I might have to do some fiddling with control track electronics if that project ever gets close to the top of the list.

It’s incredible how much stuff I have to do now that I’m retired.
