welp. Tonight at midnight we are above freezing. Then we begin The Slide. Experts are saying that we will not be above freezing again until late January - if we are lucky. @mandrix Boonie git yer ass up here for some ice fishin !!!
It always did sound fun. Put your little tent or cabin up, cut a hole in the ice, well stocked on snacks and alcohol and have a good companion or radio.
Wish I was there.

That slide is working it's way all the way down here. From Saturday on, the 10 day forecast doesn't get above 35 degrees, and 7 of the 10 days it doesn't get above freezing. I know it will be much colder for you but I just wanted to say.... keep that chit up there.

Usual Florida weather. Sometimes below freezing at night....Cold for days, few days of 70's, rain, overcast, back to a little cool. Tornado's. Usual weird stuff.
Don't like the weather wait a few days.. I wear a jacket or sweat shirt a few days, wear shorts almost every day. Jeans too hard to get into with a bum hip last few months.
So it goes. Pushing hard for another hip replacement. Wheels turn slow....

I worked for NBC Burbank for 30 years. The last 12 years there, I was the audio mixer for Today In LA, the early morning news. Working that show had some regularity to it and I didn't have to travel which was great with 3 kids at home and a working wife. I hoped to retire at age 65, but along came this computer which could operate all the cameras, graphics, pre-recorded packages, and the audio.
I had enough seniority to stay at NBC, but I had no idea what I would be scheduled to work on. They offered me a sweet buyout and I took it. That was 15 years ago. I don't miss having to be at work at 4:00 AM, but I do miss the camaraderie we had as a crew. I'm still close friends with several of them, but it's not the same as working together. If tonight was 20 years ago, I'd be looking at getting to work at 4:00 AM to do commercial control for the Rose Parade. I do miss the fun and excitement of live TV, but we must move on and I'm glad I did.
I'm 75 now and my technology and knowledge are no longer applicable.
Happy New Year all you Quadheads. Here's hoping 2025 is a healthy and happy year for all of us. 🥃 🥃

What amazes me is how many people don’t understand that these so called glamorous jobs like working in TV are really hard work with stupid hours, etc.

Interesting story. I'm younger than you, but still having to accept new chapters in life, and new tasks, and hopefully with new people and friends that come into view as others will fade away. I'm happy for the things I have gotten to experience in the Los Angeles area. Many things I would have never seen and done and people I got to meet had I stayed in FL. I now have to create other new experiences, and I'm going into the new year very set on doing just that.
Thanks for the good cheer and well wishes for 2025!

ordered a couple of Fillmore posters from Wolfgang's when they had a big sale.

Here are the new posters going up in listening room:
Rick Griffin flying eyeball Hendrix Bill Graham Fillmore / Winterland & Victor Moscoso 1967 Doors / Steppenwolf (when they were still Sparrow) Family Dog Avalon Ballroom. 🤯

Wow, historic vintage art, happy this stuff is still appreciated & preserved.
I have a few I should offer to an art gallery in my will, rather than let them go to the Goodwill thrift store or the dump.

Maybe because there are so many stupid people in front of the camera?
But I realize the production requires other people that are actually skilled. I can appreciate that for sure.

Good for you. I have nothing against thrift stores, but if it's something collectable I would donate to someone/thing that would appreciate it rather than a $0.50 throwaway.

Yes, I already have three originals framed and hanging up on other walls and never got tired of them. And that is why I just bought a couple more. My favorite is the Grateful Dead / Miles Davis Quintet 4/12/1970 I think it is. It's the one with the x-ray of the nautilus shell and outer space behind it.

The Rick Griffin flying eyeball is such a hot poster, maybe the hottest of all imo, or near the top along with Griffin's Skull-F which was used on the Dead album cover, I'm sure you've seen it.

I take longer to get them framed and up on the walls because I search out used frames at the thrift stores, then get mattes custom cut for the frames and the poster, resulting in a nice bordered look and right color of matte. And I can't afford having them custom framed in brand new frames anyway, need to have that cash for music expenditures.

I'm still puzzling what to do with my (not necessarily collectible) old disc spinners.
I have an old Oppo DV-970HD and Samsung HD-841. maybe the Oppo BDP-80 as well. Although I see them up on EvilBay for sale now and then at ridiculous prices, I'd rather give them to someone who would use them to at least play a DVD. Few are going to have DVD-A or SACD discs, and only one unit does BD.

To me, they are part of my music history, but they are essentially going to waste, yet not necessarily worth anything to people today.
The local "charity" store (Florida Sheriff's Boys Ranch) takes donations of anything semi-decent and sells off in bulk to buyers and never placed on the floor for the public to buy. Doesn't set well with me.
I mean I'm glad the money goes toward disadvantaged youth, and that's good. But that someone else can bulk buy donations and make a profit I don't much like.

The piddling tax write off means nothing on this level, even if someone at the store knew actual worth of anything.

IDK. Maybe look online for a local marketplace and offer them up as well as the plethora of TV's and pc monitors accumulating dust here for chump change? At least I'd know someone actually wanted the stuff to spend pennies on the dollar?

I'm too old to keep up with all the local laws, but this one just caught my eye. Can you imagine one of these Amsterdam style cannabis lounges with a café and high quality Atmos/Quad surround sound system. 🍃

Yes! It's called my audio room! Kitchen is a few steps away! :)
